I am 5'4 when I started MFP I was 160. I am now 149 and my goal weight is 120. I told my boyfriend what my goal weight was since he noticed I was watching what I eat and i have lost a few pounds. He said 120 that is too thin are sure you realize how small you would be? Is that even a healthy wieght for you? I told him yes 120 was fine for someone my height and age then he said I dont konow if you should go that low.He has never said anything about my weight before even when use to be 188 it was always ok with him So i was just wondering why he felt that way about it? What do you guys think about my goal weight? I honestly think since I am black the world is more accepting of us having "more meat on our bones" if look people like Beyonce or Jennifer hudson they all have more weight on them and no one calls the heavy if they lose to much weight for a role or something people say they are to thin ok so i got a little off subject but the point is i dont see any thing wrong with 120

Did you get together while you were bigger? If so 120lb may not be his type. 120lb may not be what you want but having a goal is good. it all depends on where you lose the weight. I dont want to lose my butt and boobs so i am not going under 130lb but I am 5'8"

My hubby is very supportive. When we got together I was a size ten. At our wedding I was a size 22... Hubby love love loved all that meat on my bones. To him it was a symbol of the children we had together, and therefore just another reason that he loved me so much.

I hit the 200 lb mark shortly ago and all of a sudden hubby has something to say about it. It's because honestly, he just likes a bigger girl. He is sure to tell me that I'm doing a great job but he also reminds me that he loves me just the way I am.

Maybe you just need to talk to your man about how you feel, and let him tell you how he feels. It will really help.

i agree. he may think 120 is too slim and that may not be his type. but its your body and your life so your goal is really up to you. me personally i think 120 is a lil to thin but thats just me. i also wanna keep my t & a so i will be staying at 135-140.

Hi! I found this website and I think it just really depends on your frame. If you are a larger frame you never are going to get to the same weight as someone who is a smaller frame (even though you are the same height)

I'm 5'2" and I'm going for 135. I think it just depends on your bone structure. Consider how you look at 140 and 130 before you decide to go lower. You might be happy with that tinsy bit of meat on your bones? I know I love the bit of curve I have...but right now, it's too much. haha.

Just don't have your heart set at 120 if you KNOW you'll love yourself at 130. :)
  • its your body!! your decision!

I'm 5'5" and I only want to get down to about 140lb but people tell me this is too thin all the time! I think it's because they're used to me being much bigger so they can't think of me being a 'normal' size. Maybe your boyfriend just can't think of what you would look like at that weight? The most important thing is that you feel confident in yourself, you can't let others make decisions about your own body.
  • Hi. This was something that I myself was thinking about when setting goals. I guess (like others have said) it would depend on your frame (small boned/large boned/etc). I am 5'8" and, according to the "experts" I should weight between 135 & 165. At 165 I might be okay, but at 135 I would look anorexic (I know, because I was there at one time). My goal is 185, for now. When I get there I will re-evaluate how I look to myself, how I feel & how toned I am. Those factors will determine if I feel like I need to do more. A toned 185 might look better & healthier than a non-toned 165. Hope this helps.

You're trying to lose 40 pounds? Just judging from your face, I think you may be going to low. Check with your doctor first. It may be better to find out what your body fat% is, and then set your goal weight so that you reduce body fat to the point where you are in a healthy range. A body fat% of 10% is the absolute minimum for females. However, for most women who are not extreme athletes, a healthy range may be between 15-30%.
