Hello MFP,
I have never submitted an actual post. But, I received this email from my Healthplan and thought I would post it. I notice a lot of people ask about what to have for breakfast. So here are some idea's from the healthplan. Sure hope it helps someone.
Tuff.
Starting your day with a healthy breakfast can provide many health benefits. Studies have shown that breakfast:
Improves concentration and performance in the classroom or the boardroom
Provides more strength and endurance for physical activity
Supports a more nutritionally complete diet that is higher in essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals
Eating breakfast has also been shown to help with weight loss. It’s thought that eating breakfast containing lean protein and/or whole grains reduces hunger throughout the day and therefore aids in making better food choices at other meals. The National Weight Control Registry is a group of people who have been successful in losing at least 30 pounds and keeping it off for at least one year. Close to 80 percent of the people in the Registry report eating breakfast daily and 90 percent do so on “most” days.
Get the morning nutrition you need, and perhaps achieve your weight-loss goals, with these quick breakfast ideas:
Add lean ham and low-fat Swiss cheese to a toasted whole-grain English muffin.
Layer low-fat or nonfat yogurt with crunchy high-fiber cereal and sliced fruit or berries.
Make a breakfast smoothie with low-fat or nonfat milk or yogurt and frozen strawberries and/or a banana.
Make instant oatmeal with low-fat or nonfat milk instead of water. Mix in raisins or dried cranberries. Top with chopped walnuts.
Spread a flour tortilla with peanut butter. Add a banana and roll it up.
Spread almond butter on a toasted whole-grain bagel thin. Top with apple slices.
Stuff a whole-wheat pita with a sliced hard-cooked egg and low-fat shredded cheese.
Top a toaster waffle with low-fat or nonfat yogurt and fruit.
If traditional breakfast foods don’t appeal to your taste buds, try these:
Deli turkey, a slice of low-fat cheese and romaine or spinach leaves wrapped in a tortilla.
Leftover rice mixed with low-fat or nonfat yogurt, dried fruit and chopped nuts. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Leftover veggie pizza.
Peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole-grain bread.
