Has anyone followed the zone diet ?
How does it work ?
Does it work ?

  • I have been sort of following the Zone diet for about 2 months and have lost weight. However, after reading the book, I am going to follow it strictly for one month to see if it works as well as advertised.

The Zone diet promises fat loss, physical performance improvement, and relief from depression, chronic fatigue, diabetes, etc.

I'm going to be tracking physical performance and body fat percentage, starting the Tuesday after labor day.

    Anyone else interested?

I followed the Zone strictly for 5 weeks. I lost 10 pounds and made strength gains in the gym at the same time. It's a pain to be so strict and I think you'd go mad trying to stick to the plan for an extended period, but it worked well for me as a short sharp kick in the *kitten*.
  • About how many calories were you eating? If I follow this diet to the letter, I get about 900 calories a day. It seems a bit low.

That does seem low. I think you need to check your calculations. I was a "4 block" zone and I came in at around 1400-1500 calories per day. I'm 5'3 and 160lb.

Typical brekkie - fruit smoothie, 2 scrambled eggs in butter and a glass of milk
Typical lunch - 200g chicken and a big pile of salad, apple
Snack - 120g full fat yoghurt + 1 macadamia nut.
Dinner - 120g salmon + stir fried veggies (peppers, onions, green beans etc), glass milk, a handful of raspberries & blueberries
  • Thanks for sharing your typical meals - all sound delicious!

I am on 7 blocks per day based on the calculations in the book. I guess I shouldn't be too concerned as I am not hungry for more.

Can you guys recommend a book or resource I can use to get started on this diet? I have no idea how many calories it recommends or what kinds of foods I am allowed. Please help! :) thanks!
