A couple of my co-workers were in the cafeteria this morning when I walked in. I could hear them whispering something about me, I heard them say my name. I walked over to them and one lady said, "Kesha, you look great. I almost didn't recognize you" I said, "thanks, I've lost 20 pounds so.." She said, "Really? What have you been doing?" I told her that I've been eating right and working out 5 to 6 days a week. (you should have seen the look on her face, you'd think I cursed her out!) One lady said, "So what about cheap chicken from Popeye's?" To that I replied, "you know I love my fried chicken, but I haven't had Popeye's in months. I'm trying to lose 50 pounds so I have to stay focused" The other one, "50 pounds?! That's too much, don't you got getting too thin". Then she proceeds to share how she isn't hungry when she gets home and then around 9pm she binges and all this other crap. I offered a few ideas that obviously weren't welcomed, then they continued the conversation without me....like literally turning their backs to fix their coffee! I walked away thinking, why did you even ask me?? :grumble:

I get that from a co-worker friend, too. She is always praising me, saying what a good job I'm doing and asks what I've brought for lunch, etc. When I tell her, she says "oh, I need to start eating healthier and going back to the gym, since I pay my membership and haven't been in at least a year...." She complains about getting big and asks me what to do, then turns around and buys 2 cookies from the deli downstairs - daily. She is not ready, yet is all, so I try not to get too detailed with her, because she is not listening anyway.

Stay away from the Popeyes!

Anyway, some people just hate because you're bettering yourself and doing what you need to do -- they don't have the motivation and try to make you feel like crap because you do -- don't let them bring you down!!

    Good luck!!

you just keep doing what you're doing. its their loss for not caring enough about themselves to listen to what worked for you.

A lady here at work has been on a diet since I started 12 years ago and she has never lost a pound. She's actually gained weight! She asked if she could join me at the gym and I said of course. My daughter is a way at band camp this week and I'm redecorating her room so I haven't been to the gym after work like normal. My coworker is talking smack behind my back and I just want to chuck her in the throat and say "I've lost 18 lbs how much have you lost!" UGH! People are just ignorant at times. You have to ignore the ignorance or have bail money set aside

Yeah, it seems like the only advice people want is the "magic bullet" and then they find it easier to criticize. And as for Popeye's, after a while you don't miss their chicken too much...but the biscuits and shrimp poboys are an other story! LOL!

One of my friends said because I go to the gym 5-6 days a week for about an hour a day, I am addicted to working out. Seriously, it's one hour a day, better than me sitting on the couch eating bon-bons right?? And she tells me I am too skinny and I need to eat a cheeseburger! Really?? Cheeseburgers is what got me here! Oh well, I feel so much better working out everyday, who cares what others say!!

Some people are just too much for me. What were they expecting you to say? There are no quick fixes and we are doing it the right way. Let them keep talking cause you are doing it girl. When you hit your goal they will really be talking and still having late night binges on crappy food...lol.

You obviously were losing weight the wrong way, according to them; that's why they ignored you. Their way is "wayyyy better", as if you didn't know what you were talking about. The reason they asked you was to see what works, but they didn't like the idea of exercise. Let them continue doing it their way. They will learn...or not! In the meantime, you keep up the good work!

I hate when people do this to ya. The say something like "wow, you've lost weight, how have you done it?" When you try to tell them it was hard work and calorie counting and exercise they turn their back no longer interested and their tone and comments go from supportive to "you are too thin" really quickly. People want to hear that you did it with some quick fix or diet pill, they don't want to hear about the time, dedication, sacrifice you have put into becoming more healthy. They can get non-supportive real quick.

I no longer tell people at work that ask how much I have lost. I just say that I have been working on my healthy eating and exercise routine. If I tell them 35 and say I want to lose 15 more they look at me like I am crazy or they don't believe that I could have lost so much so quickly or they think I shouldn't lose any more.

Is it jealously? Self-pity? I don't know. But its annoying when people are fake happy for you or don't care to honestly hear how you've done it when they asked in the first place. Oh well, this is for me, not for them. And if they hadn't brought it up i would never have said anything. Just wish they wouldn't bring it up if they didn't really care in the first place.

She didn't ask you for advice to keep her from binging late at night. She asked you what you were doing to lose weight.

I know I'm guilty of giving advice and suggestions to people when they pay me a compliment or ask me what I'm doing to lose weight. I think sometimes I just get so excited about my success that I want everyone to know how they can achieve it too and they really don't care.

Just keep on doing what you're doing and she can keep binging late at night and eating Popeye's. You look amazing! Keep up the good work.

I get a lot of that to. I've lost around 130 pounds and people automatically assume that I have surgery or I am on some extreme fad diet. I have been at this for almost two years now. When I tell people that I eat less and move more, they look at me like I am crazy. They want me to give them that elusive magic pill. A lot of people don't want to work for anything.

    lol

I really do have something I need to be doing besides this!

Honestly, though, I'm wondering if she left something out of that story. I see the woman asked what she did, then shared that she binged at night, but I don't see anywhere that the woman asked, "What should I do about that?"

Most people react poorly to unsolicited advice, no matter what it's about.

I know! I said the same thing a week or so ago. People will ask me how I'm losing weight and I tell them I'm counting calories, eating healthier stuff, and exercising and they look at me like I'm nuts. They WANT to hear that I'm doing some kind of magic diet or taking magic pills that just make weight loss a breeze. They don't want to hear that we are actually WORKING to lose the weight. That's why weight loss pills make so much money, most people want a magical cure for being fat, they don't want to have to change their lifestyle or their eating habits.

mmmm red beans and rice from Popeyes!!! lawdy lawdy!

Ok the real issue at hand, girl sounds like one of those women might actually want to learn a few things but negative nellie is all in her ear. i would tell the one lady "hey if you would like to hear what i been doing i would be glad to share some thing with you" and leave it at that.

I think people dont want to hear or believe that hard work and determination can actually work. You keep doing you girl!

Now back to the Popeyes! lol jk popeyes bad brocolli good
