Pain - when to start again

Options
So I had an intensive toning session with my personal trainer and monday. Lots of reps low weights to help tone my chest shoulders and arms (legs next week) and since my arms and shoulders have been very sore, uncomfortable to life over my head etc.

Tried to do some free weights tonight at home as I normally would but found it too painful should I leave it and rest or work through the pain? will it hurt my progress to miss 3-4 days of weights
