Has anyone ever heard of losing weight by just going to the sauna everyday? Just curious.

Lots of folks in sports with weight classes do it. It's just water weight though.

Maybe if you're doing aerobics in the sauna or something!

    What you talkin about Willis???

It's all water weight and not weight loss from a calorie burn.
  • it is meant to be good after a work out as it keeps your heart rate higher for longer and therefore increases your metabolism for longer.
I only treat myself to the sauna steam and jaquzzi once or twice a week after a hard spinning class, for a relax and pamper.

Yeah, it's all water weight.. come right back once you hydrate yourself. I only ever really did it for my skin.

It does from what I read. It's true that you will gain back the water weight but it requires energy for your sweat glands to release sweat, and your heart will pump harder. When i got injured and could not exercise, I spent 1/2 hour to an hour in the sauna (took a break in between).

We have a sauna in my apartments fitness center and the hubby and I indulge in a steam every now and again. My BodyMedia fit doesn't show any higher of a calorie burn while I'm sitting in the sauna than if I'm sitting on the couch.

So, as folks have said, you won't lose actual weight, just water weight. It is great for the skin and I've also found that it helps keep bloat down on high sodium days when I get a good sweat happening.
