How healthy is shrimp? Is it a good choice while watching calories?

It is very low calorie, low fat, but I believe it contains a bit of cholesterol. I had shrimp and clams last night.

Goodness yes! Loads of protein for few calories, low fat and darn tasty!

I always keep a bag of frozen prawns (as we call them in the UK) in the freezer - they defrost under running cold water in about 10 minutes, perfect for risottos, stir fries, pasta sauces.

I rustled up a rather marvellous meal this week using a tin of little shrimp: I added them to some leftover sweet potato mash, gave it some Thai flavouring with chili and fish sauce, formed little patties and fried. Wow, they were good!

My only issue with shrimp is that it can be pretty high in sodium

? Three ounces of shrimp (about a dozen large shrimp) has about 120mg of sodium.

It also has 17 grams of protein, 10% of your daily iron, and only 90 calories and 1g of unsaturated fat. If you're not a vegetarian, it's about one of the greatest things you can eat.
