can someone please suggest a piece of gym equipment or indeed any other exercise bar sit ups that target the abs

  • i just got done w/ 90 day ChaLean Extreme program and finally have a 6 pack, i am going to update my pics soon cuz i took those last night. That's just a DVD set. I dont like buying the equipment b/c i dont consider myself an expert to know how to use it the right way and i end up having back pain or feeling awkward. Then i get bored w/ it and its sitting in the corner collecting dust.

In the first two floor circuits of No more trobule zones there is a few excerises that I feel really target the abs. I love the pike crunches, squirms, planktwists and windshieldwipers. Also theres also Ab ripper X thats pretty solid for working the abs.

I've heard great things about the ab wheel.

Standing: Lean back (about 45 degrees) and alternate bringing your knees up one at a time. After 16 reps touch the sides of your head with your hands and when you bring a knee up, twist your body bringing the opposite elbow towards that knee (right knee-left elbow, left knee-right elbow). Key here is not to bring the elbow to the knee, but keeping contact with your hands on your head and bring the knee to the elbow. Don't clasp your hands. Just touch them to the temples.

A chin up bar and doing hanging leg or knee raises. THE BEST and probably the most tiring ab exercise you'll do. You can also do sit-ups on an decline bench. There's just TONS you can do w/ abs. Twice a week, I do a core/ab HIIT circuit and it probably involves about 5-8 different core exercises at high intensity. Anyways, here are a few links of stuff I do:

Not sure what this is called, but most gyms have this equipment:

    Hanging Knee/Leg Raises

Hanging Leg Raises w/ Windshield Wipers (took me a good 3-4 wks to be able to do this)

Russian Twist w/ Medicine Ball (can do without if you're just getting started)

Side Plank Oblique Crunches (or any variation of a plank position)

Love using the Bosu ball...sit on edge..not mid-center...and do slow sit-ups, from as low as u can take it back without straining your back and slowly bring it up.. and lean back as much as possible, without straining back again and go do side twists for obliques.. you can also do these sit-ups without the bosu ball.. from the floor...
