toning shoes

Hi there,

I just purchased a lower cost version of those sketcher toning shoes. I cannot remember what they were called but these shoes have the slightly rounded sole to facilitate toning in the back and legs as well good posture.

Since I have bad knees (hyper-mobility in the knees) and an ancient former surgery on my back, I just wanted to see how they did on my feet. So I bought the much cheaper version to see how I did with them with the intension of purchasing the more expensive version pending how I do with these ones.

I bought them last Saturday and today is the first time I wore them all day at work as I was slowly building up to them. I thought I would be in a lot of pain with them but actually just the opposite occurred. I quite like the feeling of them.

It is a little weird at first to wear them but they actually feel very comfy after a while. Yes, initially I could feel my muscles working but I became accustomed to it. The one thing I really notice is that they really do correct your posture.

I have sever turning in of the ankle (and thus the knees) which had been contributing to my condition for years. In the past I have had custom orthotics made for my feet. I have not put the orthotics into these shoes yet but I can say I have noticed such difference to the point where it has thrown my foot to a more normal position during standing and walking. I feel more pressure on the outside of my foot indicating to me that I am not turing the ankle over and in as much. I also notice that when I put my old shoes back on, I am more naturally standing in the corrected position in those shoes as well.

I am assuming that these shoes are only meant for walking. Although they are athletic wear, the thicker sole indicates to me that these shoes should not be used for all type of exercise. I was wondering if this is a correct assumption. Does anyone have any input on these shoes? Does anyone have anything they can caution me on these shoes about?

I read an article about these shoes a shortly after they became so popular. (Sorry, I don't have a link to it. :embarassed: ) Basically, the article said there was little to no actual toning happening from the shoes. However, I've talked to several people who've owned them and praise their comfort. It sounds like you're looking for shoes to be more comfortable and offer more cushion for you knees, from what I've heard these shoes will do just that.

I have sketchers shape ups and it states right on the box and info that they are not for working out in . . .as you could compromise your ankle. . . So they are for walking. . I have recently heard that they have ones for running. . so if you like to do that I would do some reasearch. .

The regular shape ups though are not meant to do the side to side motion and you risk injury if you try to do this in them. . Good luck.

If you are comfortable in them, good for you.
In the late 60's they were called "Space Shoes", then in the late 70's they were called "Earth Shoes", now they call them Shapers.
