My hubby brought me a Timex HRM as a gift and I think the Calorie Burn is high. For a 27 min workout (526 calories) and a 9 min workout (213 calories), it says I burned 739 calories. WTH?? I am confused on what to do. Do I use what is on the HRM?

Did u input your weight and height?
Did u add your heart rate zones?
Also make sure the strap is positioned just right,,

    (I have a Timex)

It didn't ask for my height, but I did input my weight and heart zones. The strap is positioned how the manual told me to. I will try it again and see what happens.

I'm expecting my Timex to get here today and so I'm anxious to see what these HRM"s are all about.

I have had my Timex since March. I love it. I have lost 43 lbs using it, so I'm thinkin it is pretty good. If I had to buy a new one, it would still be the Timex:flowerforyou:

I worry the my Timix reads high too. I input my stats and for my 27mins of 30 Day Shred it gives me anywhere between 340-380 cals. Now I am 5'1" and 149lbs, so overweight and out of shape. And my HR does get high, stays between 155-175 throughout the workout, but I want to be sure that I am logging the correct cals....is this too high?

I am not sure if it is too high or not. That is actually what I was wondering for myself. For Level 3 of 30 DS, my Timex said 574. But at this point, my Timex is what I am going to use.

IMHO, the timex HRM tends to run high for women and older people, because it doesn't include gender or age in its calculation. (In another entry for the "life's not fair" list, studies show that women and older people burn fewer calories at the same HR, duration, etc. than men and younger people.) You could try entering your exercise duration and average HR in an online calculator that does include those factors to see what result you get.

It's also possible that your max HR is different from the estimate that you or your watch are using. Testing for your real max HR is a pain, so I've never done it, but if you have a trainer, you could try it.
