Bite me Scale!

SO frustrated....the scale is telling me lies! Last week didn't lose anything but I figured that TOM was the cause. This week up 0.2 pounds. I know that it isn't much but I am eating a deficit of more than 3500 calories per week so I should be seeing a drop even if it is small...NOT A GAIN! Might be salt issues as I am starting to get into smaller clothes but I want to see a number change on the scale! Two weeks at basically the same weight is so frustrating. I could understand if I had been doing this a while and had just hit a plateau but I just started 4 weeks ago and there is no reason for this stagnancy. I record everything and stay under my (usually right at) my calorie goal 9 out of 10 days. I am going to weigh again in the morning and see if was just water. Let's cross our fingers and hope so. :(

So now I am wondering if I really am eating too much and I should restrict my caloric intake to below what MFP says I should eat?

  • Have you been doing your measurements?

Sounds like you may be gaining muscle and losing fat. Muscle weighs more than fat so its not a bad thing to see no changes on the scale.

Your body may be going into starvation mode if you are exercising but not eating alot.

pound of lead=pound of feathers=pound of fat=pound of lean muscle

Take your measurements, its possible you are building lean muscle mass. I had the same trouble but found I lost inches. =)

Make sure you are keeping track of your sodium, its a killer on the scale! Do you have it set for 2 pounds per week? Also, I can't see your diary but I wouldn't recommend eating more than 1/3 of your exercise calories back. Just keep at it, the results will show :)

it's hard, I know. I fluctuate a lot. Just keep doing the right things, eat when you're hungry, and make the "best" choice. You can do it!!!!!

Oh and take measurements, they are WAYYYYY more accurate than a scale :)

PS I'm adding you because you have a big orange cat and big orange cats are my weakness :)

Without seeing your food diary it's hard to say but don't let the scale get you down. If you are doing the work and logging everything, you can bet changes are happening!!!! That darn scale always lies to us to try and drag us down. Stay positive and continue doing what you are doing....it seems early for you to hit a plateau so just give it some time, watch your sodium maybe and drink lots of water. Good luck:)!!!

my sodium is always too high but I am not sure how to really lower it. I don't salt at the table ever and I cook with the least amount of seasoning containing salt that I can. I do eat lunch meat and canned soup because I work 12 hours a day. I am sure that it has something to do with not getting enough sleep too. I also don't really exercise regularly. I am working on just the diet right now. PS. add me as a friend and you can see my diary.

Sodium can make us swell and carry water weight causing a bigger number on the scale! Do you track your sodium on your food diary? How's your water intake? Water will help flush the sodium devil lol. I'll send you a friend request:) Just take baby steps. I didn't exercise at all when I joined here but now I'm an exercise junkie.
