Dieting while caring with someone with a mental illness

Hi All!
I'm 26 and after having open heart surgery for a hole in the heart I only found out I had 3 months prior I am finally ready to lose the weight I put on when I wasn't allowed to move and the fear of having my heart go fast.
Anyway - My problem is that my partner of 6 years, who means the world to me is bipolar, and he is going through one of his down periods at the moment. Is anyone else in the same situation and what do they do to stay motivated?
I mean this as I feel like because of his illness I can't spend 100% effort on myself as I'm worried about him which leads me to either spend time making sure he's okay or leaving him while I work out calories, weigh food, document etc which makes me feel guilty (as much as I know it shouldn't!)
Any advice/support would be great
I'm also after some motivating friends if you would like to join!

I don't have a similar problem. I am a nurse though and know how much effort goes in to helping care for others. My suggestion would be to find cassaroles or soups or something you can make ahead and freeze. write the cals on the container so on days he needs you, you can just pull out those things heat and eat and know how many calories you are consuming.
Don't feel guilty for taking care of yourself. You need to be at 100% in order to help him. Hang in there and take time for you too!0
