Jumping starting metabolism....

My yoga teacher says when I wake up I should drink a glass of warm/hot water and then go for a brisk walk to jump start my metabolism.
Has anyone else heard of doing such a thing?
Extra excercise is always good and won't hurt, but I'm a little supious of the whole warm/hot water thing.
Frankly, I don't think I need to jump start my metabolism. I have been losing weight at a decent pace (for me) since I joined
MFP.
