It is a fine line that is easily crossed from healthy food planning and lifestyle change to obsession. We need the thoughts of people who have lost their weight and are now keeping it off. They can maybe tell us if those feelings went away and how they handle it.

Yes, when we spend so much time accounting for what we eat and what we do to burn it off, you bet your buttons we are obsessive.
But dear, I would rather be obsessive about my health then what happened on some TV show. Well other then Biggest Loser. :blushing:
Or obsessing about what the Pop Tart of the day did to get into the news.
HOWEVER that said, you are getting healthy so you can enjoy a fuller richer life. SO GO LIVE IT!
I think that this site is great in that it helps us become aware of healthy choices and gives us support when times get tough. That IS addicting. But I think it is addicting in a very VERY good way.

I think it is fairly common to get to that point. I am fighting a 7lb gain, and have to tell myself all the time to chill out a bit. Hang in there

maybe you could spin the negative emotions of obsessing about what, when, how, etc, into a positive thing. become a trainer, or nutritionist. if you are going to focus on food all day then get paid for it. become an expert. that way, you can say its your business to be obsessed. and you are just dedicated. plus, the more you know, the less you will worry about it.
seriously, after a 25 pound loss and being so close to your goal, I am sure it is perfectly normal to be so focused on this last part. but you could probably do it in your sleep. by now you know what a portion is, you know the right foods, you know all the stuff. RELAX. you're going to do this successfully and then you can bask in the glow. good luck.

Oh man, food is on my mind constantly. I love nutrition, I love exercise. It's my whole life...it's what I'm going to school for, and what I'm planning on grad school for. As long as it's not upsetting you, there's nothing wrong with it.

EXACTLY. it can become a passion, not a problem. I create foods, I do use some artificial sweetener in some of my recipes, but it is such a joy to come up with a food that is health, tasty, and uses all the right things. that reminds me, I smell, my sugar free, fat free, meringues. I love learning about what I am fixing too, not just how many calories and fat, but nutrients. I have a long way to go, but its very interesting. plus, I am sure you know, you can mix them to work better together!!. :glasses:

One of the things I hate most about being overweight is when people say "you just need to eat right and exercise and the weight will come off". As though that mantra will instantly motivate me to want to do just that, or that I had never thought of that on my own before!
I hate to exercise. What I love to do is to go horseback riding, snowshoeing, hiking, birding, gardening, etc. We also heat entirely with wood, so I split and stack about three cords of firewood a year....all of that is exersize...but I don't tell myself that! What I tell myself is that I am LIVING!
I am a Certified Executive Chef, so yeah, I obsess about food too...but I also hold a degree in Nutritional Science, and I want to use both to help people (including myself) to eat better and be healthier. I use only organic and natural foods, and am very careful what I put into my mouth. I am also diabetic, so I have had to make some compromises along the way (for instance I use splenda).
One of the things that I find sad is that it seems like we all act like somehow this isn't our life yet...that we are not really living until we "get to the goal". We have great people here on a journey that is both exhilirating and frustrating (much like life). We can choose to LIVE, just as we are and enjoy the journey with one another as we get to where we would like to go...but let's not make the mistake...or let the world convince us that we cannot LIVE RIGHT NOW just the way we are...so what if we weigh more than we want to right now...at least we're doing something about it. LIVE NOW. Don't wait.
I once heard a saying...and I'm going to get it all wrong, but it went something like this...
"The object in life is not to preserve a thin good looking corpse to be buried in, but to skid to the finish line sideways hands raised with a big smile on our face yelling "Woo Hoo" what a ride!"
My dear friends....let's live now and if we are somewhat obsessive about things, let's forgive each other ...we're all works in progress. God bless you all. I value each of you.
