I have an issue, I am 7.5 lb's from my goal and night before last I pulled my calf muscle at the gym. It really sucks and I can hardly walk, let alone try to get a normal work out in. Does anyone have any suggestions for anything I can do to keep things moving in the right direction so I don't waste all my hard work? I am still eating properly and logging everything in, I am just afraid that without my workouts my metabolism will slow down and I will get stuck back in the rut I was in before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I have calf muscle strain. The only thing I can tell you is, take it easy and don't push it. stretch it out little by little each day and do some floor exercises. Try floor Pilates, it's a killer workout but doesn't require you to stand on your leg or use them that much as support.
  • I am not an expert but I do think if you eat you calorie allowance without exercise you will be fine. Just eating 1200 calories creates a deficit. Hope this helps. : )

Weight loss is 80% nutrition only 20% exercise so just be sure to stick to your sedentary caloric goal and not eat what you usually do working out daily.

If you can, do some boxing exercises, great way to get your HR up if your lower body is immobilized but honestly, just watch your intake, heal and get back on the horse when you can.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I have not tried the floor pilates, do you know if they have that on any cable channels? I will have to check it out when I get home tonight.

You can try a recumbant (sp) bicycle...where your legs are out in front of you and see if it hurts your calf.

Take a few days to rest and mend, then slowly work in other items like stretching, upper body lifting ... things that keep you off your feet until you are more fully recovered. If you can find temporary access to one of those infamous at-home 'total gym' devices, they are great for getting some mixture of cardio and weight work without having to use your legs. Since the platform slides and you can rest your leg on it then it may keep most pressure off of it while allowing you to move the rest of your muscles.
I am sorry to hear that you have been derailed so close to your goal, but take it a day at a time and let your body tell you what you can do.
Of course, find out what your calorie goal should be if you can't work out and try to work within that if there are no other options.
Good luck and I hope you mend quickly!

Do you have access to a pool? Swimming might be a gentle workout for your calf.

I do have acces to a pool at the gym, but have never been much of a swimmer. I have this issue with water on my face. (don't know where that came from, but it it what it is) I will check into the water aerobics or something. Thank you for the suggestion.

How about walking in the pool. Alot of runners with injuries turn to this to keep up with their training.

Here's a link I found with some info:

    http://www.arthritis.org/walk-in-water-fit.php

No need to get your face wet.

    All the best.
