I am really fed up with people right now...

Ok...

Please, am I alone on this or do others agree...

Say your calorie goal is 1200 for the day... does that mean you can eat 1200 calories of CRAP and then expect weight loss just due to a deficit. Give me a break!!!!

Why do people not get this... you need to put HEALTHY food into your body. The more crap you eat, no matter your calories NET... the more energy your body is wasting on processing that junk, rather than burning calories even if working out.

I'm just sick of people around me in life being stuck in "bad habbit" land and then complaining that they don't get why things are getting worse. Even more fun when it's family members :P ... I've lost almost 60 lbs since January by changing my life... it's like they don't even realize it takes a complete CHANGE.

Maybe we all hit "reality" at different times... and maybe this is one of those times you need to let people hit their own rock bottom, but it's really hard to be supportive.

Thank you for allowing me to rant, and any advice on how to keep my sanity is well taken :)

It's possible to eat only junk food and lose weight.

Well, I agree with you. If you're just in it to lose weight and then go back to your old habits, that's the wrong motivation, IMHO. This is about a lifestyle change. Or at least it should be.

Thanks for flaming the rage SirBen hahahaha.

I know there will be people who are close to their junk food and won't like this.

oh ya Im sick of this too! You MUST change your eating habits...unlearning old habits is hard for most people and most people are horrible habits.

Im also sick of people asking me for help and what Im doing to look so good and then give me excuse after excuse as to why they cant do anything at all for themselves...

I agree I would be annoyed. But, losing weight is science and math. Calories in equals calories out, and you're fine. If you eat 1200 calories of twinkies, or 1200 calories of healthy food, you will lose the same. However....you will overall be more healthy if you eat healthy food.

It's frustrating...but you hang in there! You're doing great!

I agree for the most part but I know plenty of people who haven't completely changed their way of life, just keep their crap food in their caloric goals, drink water and added 15-20 minutes of exercise and it seems to be working for them. The catch is that it isn't healthy BUT it is a lot healthier than their previous "no exercise, eat tons of calorie" way of life. Some people just take a little longer to adjust. It's all about baby steps....1 step leads to the next.

I like you have for the MOST part changed my whole life. I still indulge when I go out or their is a birthday. Never hurts to give yourself a treat every now and again.

SirBen is right, you can lose weight by eating junk. It is all a numbers game when it comes down to it. HOWEVER - your body will be in ill health as a result, and most likely the weight will not stay off since junk food is so calorie-dense unless the person can keep their portions under strict control for the rest of their life.

Actually, you absolutely will lose weight on any calorie deficit.

GUILTY...I don't eat crap all the time, but I don't eat very healthy at all. All I've done is cut back the calories of what I'm eating and I'm losing weight just fine.

The change has really just been portion control and not snacking....especially when I'm not hungry

counting calories is a start...but u have to change, your right..i am a processed food addict and i have lost weight on cutting calories alone...i still eat bunches of candy and cookies...ekkk!! i know its wrong and now that im reaching my final 15 to goal i am ready to change. its hard to get there...everyone has to realize that junk is not going to help you maintain health and fitness in their own time. its hard to go cold turkey...im going to change and i hope me changing will help someone else change too

I have that problem with my mom. I lost 50 lbs and she always asks me how I did it and that she wants to be able to lose weigh. And I tell her everytime. It took a lot of work and eating right but she just doesn't get it. I am so sick of hearing her whine about being fat and unhealthy but then she will go out to eat 4 times a week and lays around all day. Weight loss isn't going to come by a special secret that people are holding out on you. It takes excersise and a healthy diet. Its an entire lifestyle change! So yes I get so sick of people who want to lose weight but they don't want to make ANY effort to do so. Nothing is free and if you want something bad enough you work for it!

    Well, I hear ya...

However, in answer to your (implied, if not actual) question: does that mean you can eat 1200 calories of CRAP and then expect weight loss just due to a deficit. Give me a break!!!!

Yes, you can eat 1200 calories of complete crap and lose weight due to the deficit. You wont be very healthy, but you will lose weight....until you die anyway. But, technically, yes you certainly can.

So I understand and agree with what you are saying, most of us....maybe not all, but most of us on the site...really have to change our eating habits not just diet to lose weight. But, you know, people have to make their own decisions. I really dont understand why anyone would actually get upset over someone else's diet choice. It's their health, it's their diet, it's their decision. Stupid or not, it's theirs to make. More power to 'em, hope it works out.

I lost 50 pounds once eating only gummy bears and white cheddar cheetos.

    I don't recommend that. :ohwell:

I was quite literally a psychopath from my brain being starved but oh man was I skinny.

lol! hmm, I might try that. j/j but I do have to toss my two cents in as well. You CAN eat 1200 calories of crap and lose weight, as long as you CAN only eat 1200 calories of crap. Myself, I find crap so YUMMY that I tend to eat a few thousand more than 1200 calories when I eat it.

I, too, see people doing this! I think it works the other way, too, though because my very skinny friend gets crap all the time from fatter folks saying "oh, you're so lucky! You can eat anything you want!" SO NOT TRUE! She's healthy and she works out! This is why she's skinny!

I think we all definitely hit our wall at different times. I was content being fat. I was lazy and enjoyed eating. I had absolutely no drive to lose weight. I have been to several doctors this year for various normal check ups and things and it had been about a month since my last visit. I was feeling like I had lost a little weight when, in fact, I had gained 6 pounds!! I realized then if I didn't change myself, my habits, and my outlook, I would be one of those people who claims that they have no idea how they got to be 350 pounds!

So, now I've lost 37 pounds and I'm feeling better and I'm much happier just being me. I think that people who haven't hit that point yet just can't understand what it takes to lose weight. Weight loss is not the goal. It's just a bonus for changing your life!

Ugh, I can't stand it either!
Sure maybe you'll still lose some weight at first by eating junk. But is that really worth having tons of health problems in the future and cutting time off of your life? People need to stop being so into the concept of just losing weight and actually think about what they're putting into their bodies & how it's going to affect them.

I understand you are frustrated, and I hate to go all zen on you, but there is no one true path. Alot people would look at my diary and be appalled, what they don't know about me is that I am literally allergic to more things than i am not, so I am pretty restricted on my dietary choices. What you may not know about that theoretical person you are complaining about might be something like they used to eat 1000 calories per day over their needs and most of that was saturated fat and cornsyrup based products. You just don't really know.

Additionally, yes you can lose weight eating almost anything as long as there is a calorie deficit, health as many have said is a whole nother item.

But if your body is "wasting energy" by definition it is burning calories, anything your body has to do is by definition burning calories. A body can't do anything without using up calories.

My personal pet peeve though, is people who insist that a 60-70% carbohydrate percent is the absolutely only healthy and balanced diet, but then complain about their diabetes, or that they are always hungry, or that they just can't lose weight. And aren't even willing to explore a lower carb diet. On the one hand how do I know they haven't tried it and failed with it, or that their doctor banned them from it for medical reasons I don't know, or any of a number of reasons, on the other hand I am not exactly rational and warn fuzzy and forgiving on this particular topic either.

Best advice I can give you is to ignore the people who drive you nuts, stop looking at their diaries, etc.

Alright, you CAN lose weight on a deficit of just junk food... ya'll made your point...

But, my point was... junk food is loaded with sodium and sugar which both inhibit weight loss... so anyone who does this to themselves isn't seeing results to the fullest and is only hurting themselves.

Ahhh see, that is where I got into trouble. I don't even think I was hitting 1200 a day. So yea, wreaked havoc on my body and my brain. Starvation for sure but it was starvation on junk food. :ohwell:

You have a point but I only partially agree with you... Most people when they start a diet, or start sticking to 1200 cals a day, will ruthlessly cut out all the "bad" things they used to eat - chocolate, crisps, ice cream, wine - whatever it might be. But after a few days they'll end up craving everthing again - the likelihood is they'll end up giving in and eating loads - and then as they'll feel like they'll failed they'll quit on the "diet" or "lifestyle change" and go back to their normal habits until the next time.

Surely it's better than they cut down on what they were eating, but include it into their calorie allowance - and stay on track rather than jacking it in altogether?

Also I'd like to know - please can you tell me what you eat on a typical basis, as I'm interested in what you class as "eating healthy"? Geniunely interested - I'm not being sarcastic or anything - I know how easy it is to misread how someone types something on a forum!! I'd like to know because I'm 99.999% certain that my food diary leaves something to be desired (and I'm sure it's the reason I'm stuck on this flaming plateau....) and I could use some inspiration!!!

It's all about calories. Sugar doesn't necesarily cause weight gain....neither does sodium. I know sodium my make you hold on to more water weight, but you can still lose weight overall even if you have some water weight left in you. So...I agree that eating crap that's only 1200 calories will make you lose weight, but it won't make you healthy! Not by a long shot!! So long term...it will be more beneficial to those that eat healthy than those that eat crap :)

That's the thing though-some people CAN eat 1200 calories of junk and lose weight. I personally have to watch my carbs, or I don't lose. It is really a personal thing. If that's how they want to lose their weight, more power to them!

I think for some it's just a slow process. I will use me as an example I started by just staying within my cal goal with no issues just by eating less of what i normally eat. I learn portion control Then I noticed if i eat healthy lower cal food I can eat more salads, grilled chicken. Lesson learn Then I seen some pounds coming off. Then I thought well if excerise this will get even better. I learn how to enjoy working out I went to keep weight off I need cook healthy and read food labels. I didnt go into this thinking I was going to
change my life style but slowy but surely I am. So dont throw the baby out with the bath water just yet
