I'm sure all along the east coast we are battening down the hatches, raiding the grocery stores and planning for the worst. I'm making my usual shopping list since I hit the stores on Thursday nights and I am DREADING the mania. So... to procrastinate, I want to know what everyone is planning on eating this weekend when the storm is raging, the power is out and we can't cook.

Uhh, Thanks for the reminder. I need to go to the store tomorrow, or else I'll be living off of PB sandwiches and triscuits.

I'm in CT, I am praying that the power doesnt go out. I can handle the rest but I need power!, but I plan to stock up on ice just in case I need to fill my cooler with cold food. Anyway, salads, and I'll still have the grill. Peanut butter, fruit.....chips, dip, chocolate....oh wait....I got off track there....why do storms always make me think of eating???????

I love Triscuits. If angels ever made a cracker, it would have been a Triscuit.

im kinda counting on the power not going out...maybe that's dumb of me though. Anyway, I have some stuff for turkey sandwiches...i have tuna too. I did the store run today after work just for Water and Milk...pretty much have everything else we need, I keep a really well stocked pantry at all times. I'll pick everything that is ripe or almost ripe from the garden tomorrow.

I expect power to be on, but it to be too rainy to go out so probably just some homemade pizza for dinner and cereal for breakfast and snacks.

If its quiet enough to hit a movie, i will stay disciplined.

I much prefer Wheat Thins, myself.
  • I am hoping I am far enough inland to miss the brunt of it. I do have a gas stove which makes me oh sooo popular when we lose electricity lol. I didn't buy anything except milk for the fridge cause nothing hacks me off more than having to toss food if it doesn't stay cold. Might be lots of wheat pasta, and brown rice.

I did very little shopping this week. we have the usual bread and pb, soups, fresh fruits and veggies. At this point though we do not even know if we will be staying home or leaving. if the storm moves west anymore we are SOL. The best food for weight loss is kind of low on my list of concerns.

PB sandwiches, fruit cups, chips & crackers, tuna, granola bars, protein bars, nuts, applesauce, fruit, and plenty of water on hand.
A few years ago we lost our power for over a week. We, along with our neighbors, used our grill &cooked up food we had in our fridges & freezers. It was a neighborhood party. We all still lost some food, but we made the most of it.

P.S. After that experience, we got a generator!

No electricity, no water, no phones, no TV, no internet. There was nothing else to do! We got to know our neighbors like they did back in the olden days. It was nice actually.

I've got family in Wilmington. Those folks (at least the ones I know) are hardcore. Not that they don't get ready, they do. But they are pros at it, I guess and don't seem to panic much.

30 mins south of Wilmington and we did our prep shopping last weekend. When you have been through as many hurricanes as we have, you learn what to watch for and can tell if they are going to hit you. Lots of water, canned food, peanut butter and fresh fruit. No panic, just preparation. Hunker down as they always say!!!

Bring it on Irene, we are ready.
  • I have a gas powered blender we use for tailgaiting that will be mixing hurricanes (the adult beverage) and a seafood boil to throw in a cast iron dutch oven that can either be thrown in the fire pit or on the grill. Also planning on getting a roaster chicken made before it goes for sammies.
