I got pretty sickened with the whole "cross" made out of steel beams debate so I need a break from the whole thing.

Yeah, what a nice way of "god" to show he's there for you. By leaving a metal crucifix (on which mythology says his "son" was strung up and tortured and, ultimately, killed) at the site where a bunch of religious extremists horrifically murdered 3,000 innocent human beings. Makes perfect sense.

People make the STRANGEST connections with arbitrary rubble.

Didn't know it was on. It'd probably make me sad if I watched it. Perhaps I'll catch a rerun sometime.

I spent a lot of time working with firemen and policemen clearing all the rubble, and to many of them they thought it was more then arbitrary. There were a lot of cross members in those buildings and it was standing there and meant something to a lot of men and women in a pretty horrific situation. I like it staying there for that reason...

I just cannot wait for the train station to re-open. I have not decided if I am going to visit the memorial... if I do it will not be until the crowds simmer down

I can understand it meaning something at that time. Whether it needs to stay there is another story. I'm not sure what I would decide if it were up to me...

It's unnecessary and exclusionary. What happened that day was due to religious extremism. Embracing accidental imagery for a totally separate religion makes NO sense. How is that even remotely reasonable? If your interpretation makes it a personal symbol then, fine, go with it, but it doesn't need to make an official appearance. I find it offensive and vulgar.

    Plus...

"OMG! It's an H! That's the symbol for Hydrogen, the most abundant chemical element! It's a sign! It means the big bang is true! We need the new building to be constructed in the shape of an H!"

...Come on. Interpretation is fun...not functional.

Work there in the smoldering for 12 hour shifts... if it is something that gave you hope, then so be it. I worked mapping the underground utilities so as firemen were working to save people they would not hit a gas main or oil tanks. I heard several men mention it to me before the news even heard about it. Exclusionary? I don't give a ****. It was part of the story.

right now it is on display a block away.... is that ok?

Who cares where it is. It was there, get over it and realize this is part of our history. We're living the next step, remarkable times our kids, and grandkids will study, as we did for the world wars

The program itself is packed with interesting information.

I have not watched many things about 9-11 at all. This is one of the first that I have sat through more then 10 minutes of because it has a lot of the work progress.

Of course you don't give a ****. That's what makes it exclusionary.

I don't care if it's on display SOMEWHERE. I live in a town with churches with crosses at their apexes/capstones. I think churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, etc. are gorgeous buildings and lots of the imagery is absolutely fascinating. That said, why are we arguing representing a TOTALLY unrelated religion at the memorial site? If a LaVeyan Satanist died in the attack, would we honor her with images of pentagrams or the Sigil of Baphomet? NO. So why the favoritism?

People of many faiths including agnostics and atheists were killed that day and we've all been affected by the aftermath.

Try thinking a little more inclusively. We're all human beings on this earth TOGETHER. Just a thought.

I have worked in the field of architecture for 8 years now and I actually lived 2 blocks south of ground zero after 9/11, so I speak from experience and I am very curious about what is planned for the site and for revitilizing the area.

It's so hard to watch programs that sensationalize it.

So things that are an actual piece of the history of the site should be excluded? Should all history be whitewashed?

You might want to tune it. There's drama, but I wouldn't call it sensationalism. Very pragmatic subject lines actually mixed with emotion and technical challenges.

What? No. Who said it should? There's plenty of history that there was a crossbeam sliced into a recognizable t-shape. I just found the image by googling "world trade cross". It's already part of history. Who ever said to whitewash anything?

And yes, lots of pieces should be excluded. You want to keep ALL the rubble? Or only the pieces YOU deem meaningful? It's just Pandora's Box if you go that route. Keep religion out of it. Religion is what makes most terrorist attacks happen in the first place. Look at 9/11 or the recent Norway bombing by the Christian extremist. Just keep it out of the memorial. It's about the people. Not the mythology.

I can understand this, too. People be crazy, and you can't please everyone. I agree that if you keep one thing, you could argue to keep all the things, and that's just fussy and unnecessary. I think seeing that cross meant a lot to the people there at the time, but the memorial should be about the people, not the rubble.

Yes and that is more then just a piece of rubble. they are going to have an entire museum there loaded with pieces of rubble and wreckage that are more then just scraps of steel. Religious or not it fits in perfectly

Not sure who said that and if it's an opinion, great. That's what it is. If its suspicion, wake a little bit.

It's nothing about the rubble despite Ms TryingToSideTrackTheThread

The convenient thing about this, for my new friend http://www.myfitnesspal.com/mckaymachina, is that she can choose to not watch, not google, not think about it or wax poetically about theology or comparative religion.

So, anyone else besides me watching it? Which WAS my question.

You just sent me a friend request saying that you liked what I said on your thread.

    ???

No one would even have seen this thread had I not gotten a little controversial about it!

I would probably have watched it but I don't have cable. I don't even have a TV. I only watch TV online and the show's not posted yet.

    Yeah, I'm not sure either.

    Suspicion? About what?
