I am wondering if I should stop exercising when I am sore? I have been walking for three days now, but it's more than walking...Walk away the pounds, Also I've been doing leg lifts and push ups. This morning I was sore during my work out, I felt tired, but I kept going. What if I'm sore tomorrow? How often can I do leg lifts, push ups and sit ups? Help!!

I doing a longer warm up and do a lot of stretching. My legs kill me after doing squats and lunges, but I keep going. I don't work my legs every day. I rotate body parts.

What if you're not using any weight?

Oh but you are using weight...your body weight. Your legs carry your body weight around all day long, so it makes sense that they get tired when made to do more than the usual. I would say stick with it for now...eventually it should get easier. If you need to take a day of rest, go for it. But then get right back into it the next day! Hopefully this helps!

  • From what I know you are able to crunches/situps everyday. But as for getting your body toned you should only do weight lifting every other day. What works for me is doing upper body training one day and lower body the opposite day.
I use to teach Martial Arts (taekwondo) for a living and what we you to say is... "Pain is weakness leaving the body". A bit hard core but if you think about it you are using muscles that have been dormant for a while. It will take a few days for the soreness to subside but stay on it and you will do great! Remember to always have PERSEVERANCE and you can accomplish anything!

Knowing that pain it in the eye of the beholder. I have to ask.
    What KIND of pain?
Are you just SORE, or is it a shooting pain?
If it is bad enough that you can bearly walk, IF It is, IT'S LETS SEE THE DOCTOR TIME!
To put it the way that body builders do, to gain muscle you have to work it, when you work it, you tear it, (Not LITERAL) when it repairs you are getting muscle.
Put that way it is normal to feel a small amount of discomfort when you excersize.
NOTE I SAID SMALL, If it is pain that you can bearly work with again I say GET THEE TO DOCTOR!

If you're using weights, you should rest that bodypart one or two days before hitting the same bodypart again. Which means that it would be best if you rotate the bodyparts that you are working on so that you rest it. The only exception to that is abs, you should not be adding additional weight when you're doing your ab work, so you can work those a few days in a row, but even those must be rested.

You will over work if you don't rest what you've worked, and you will be prone to injuries, so please rest your body.

OK to be slightly sore after working it. But if it's painful then be sure to rest it a couple of days. If you have sharp pain, then seek medical advice as you may have injured yourself.

Where are you sore? If it is a general all over achy feeling, then that's good. The soreness you feel is DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) that typically lasts about 2 days. When you start moving, you will be very stiff & sore. As you get going, it should improve.

However, if it is localized, meaning you can put one finger on it, you need to get it checked out. If you have the same pain on both sides of your body, you're probably o.k., as it is very rare to injure the same muscle on both sides! It is very important to keep the achy body part moving during those couple of days after or you will take longer to recover.
