Hi. My acid reflux is out of control and I want to get it straightened out with food changes rather than taking meds. I know a lot of what NOT to eat but I'm having trouble knowing what to pack for lunch everyday. I have access to a fridge and a microwave but that's about it. I aim for 300-500 cal for lunch. Any ideas would be appreciated-- the easier the better.
Thanks!

  • What bothers your acid reflex the most? I seem to be affected by acid...

    SNACKS:
    - Rice Cakes
    - Almonds of Other Nuts
    - Fruit

LUNCHES (I can usually eat most of these for 300 calories or under):

Hi! I've got the same problem, and some foods I can't eat on its own include salads or wholemeal sandwiches for lunch. What I've found really helpful in maintaining my diet n keeping d acid reflux at bay are hearty soups, like minestrone and pasta. Just avoid throwing in ingredients that might trigger the acid reflux later. :)

    Hope you found this helpful!

Changing your diet will help you, but it might not be enough to stop symptoms.

I'd recommend a salad (celery, carrots, lettuce, and spinach don't seem to irritate my stomach), rice with some chicken (perhaps with some low-calorie sauce of your choice), or low-sodium soup. Sandwiches might work for you. Personally, I don't eat them, aside from peanut butter, but I highly recommend staying away from that.

It really depends on what causes the reflux the most. I found that my biggest trigger was foods high in yeast, such as bagels (bakery type), donuts, beer, etc. After that was high fat foods. If you know what triggers the reflux, that will help you avoid the problem.

Thanks for the input so far. Food-wise, I seem to have trouble with tomato-based products (sauce, soup). I also have a spastic colon so I have to watch for those trigger foods (seeds, heavy dairy, grease, some greens).

I haven't experimented much with fruit. I know citric ones are out, but has anyone had luck with any fruits? My first response is to want to eat starchy stuff but I don't want to throw my healthy eating out the window just bc my insides aren't cooperating.
