Hi MFP users i'm looking for people that have experience cooking with flax seeds. My friend gave me a whole margarine container and I have never used flax seeds before so I'm not sure where to add it or use it. If you could give me some guidance or examples it would be greatly appreciated!

You can grind them up and use them in place of a part amount of flour when baking. Or you can just add them on top of oatmeal or yogurt, if you don't feel like baking or cooking with them.
  • I use them in pancakes, muffins or in with my oatmeal or smoothies:wink:

I think they work best ground up- I put mine in a blender and used "grate" I think. After they are ground up, I put them in oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, on PB and Banana sandwhiches....etc. You can put them on anything, but I've heard they are best ground or they might upset your digestive tract, AND that they aren't digested but only passed through if not ground..

I put it in all kinds of things ,shakes, peanut butter sandwiches, cereals, what ever you can stay them in lol,but if u get your good fats from other sources, fish, nuts, avacado's,I would only use it on days you lack in your good fats.
  • I grind them up and add them to 99% fat free ground turkey or chicken when making meatballs. I use it to top my salads, in my cottage cheese or yogurt, in my oatmeal....
    so many uses for them....
