I didn't count today -- it looks like everyone is taking the day off! I ate pretty clean, but allowed myself a break from logging my foods. I had a very nice Christmas with my kids, husband, and mother, who came to visit from out of town.

I hope everyone is enjoying some relaxing time with their families!

Here's a great idea for a clean protein bar: Boomi Protein Plus bars. They come in almond and cashew varieties.

    Nutrition for the almond version:
    270 calories
    12 g protein

Just three ingredients! -- Almonds or cashews, honey, whey protein isolate

They are more expensive than Clif bars, but much better! You can get them in health food stores and by the case on Amazon (24 bars for about $34).

So did anyone get anything fun for Christmas?

I got snow shoes, a new iPod nano, and some hazelnut COFFEE!!! I bet the caffeine jitters are burning off some calories.

    Meal #1:
    Banana
    1/4 c Grape Nuts
    1/2 c skim milk
    8 almonds
    1 T cashews
    1 c coffee
2 T half and half (I'm drinking it unsweetened, but can't get myself to give up the cream yet!)

    Meal #2:
    1 c cream of wheat
    1 apple
    1/8 c egg whites
    1/8 c skim milk
    1/8 c cashews

I'm going to another family Christmas party this afternoon, full of processed foods and sugar. :noway: We'll be bringing white rolls for everyone else, and homemade whole-wheat dutch-oven bread and squash (for us). Last year we took both white and wheat rolls, so this year my SIL requested the "fluffy white ones", LOL! She purposely asked us NOT to bring the healthier ones. :grumble: I better take some food with me.

Hey, Jawaria! I've gotten a little off track, too. I haven't had sweets, but I did eat a lot of processed foods at our family Christmas get-together today, as well as eat more than I should have. I haven't mastered how to NOT eat a meal that family members have prepared for my family. I guess in time they may understand the purpose of my strange eating habits. (It's not just about weight.) I didn't suffer any stomach discomfort, but I'll probably put some water weight back on, as well as have an increased appetite for a day or two. It's hard to get back on track once you've gotten off, but every time I go off-track, I veer off a little less severely than before.

We just have to be persistent and keep steering ourselves back!

I just posted this in the nutrition thread:

    Sugar Is Pain:
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/33063-sugar-is-pain

My new revelation that sugar has been the culprit in my coffee all these years is *really* helping me to "keep it clean." I'm still so blown away by it! Am I so "dumb" that it took me twenty years to figure it out? Wow. :blushing: Whoever brainwashed me into thinking sugar was "harmless in moderation" really did a good job. :grumble: LOL.

Are you all getting back to your normal, non-holiday lives yet? My house is still a wreck of toys  -- and candy :frown: .
  • I might get myself a set of calipers for my birthday.

Ok now that is just wrong! Perfume - yes, clothes - yes, spa day - yes. But calipers? Definitely a birthday NO!

LOL! I can't justify spending money on something like that most of the time! How about calipers AND a HRM?

    :flowerforyou: Homemade Ketchup

    12 oz tomato past
    1/2 c cider vinegar
    1/2 c water
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp oregano
    1/8 tsp cumin
    1/8 tsp nutmeg
    1/8 tsp pepper
    1/2 tsp mustard powder
    squeeze of garlic from press

    Source: The New Laurel's Kitchen

I half the recipe, and I also don't like all the spices, so I just use the tomato paste, vinegar, water, salt, and 1/4 tsp onion powder.

I've made this in the past and didn't like it, but that was before I got serious about giving up sugar. Now it tastes great because I'm just happy to have some kind of ketchup for my burgers and "fries"!

I am fairly new to my fitness pal and just came across your club. I started binge eating (mosting sugary processed foods) about 1 1/2 years ago and am 10 pounds heavier. I have struggled the last 1 1/2 years with yo yo dieting and hating myself for bingeing and what I see in the mirror. I have tried to go sugar-free a number of times, only to end up on a sugar rampage. I would love to join your clean eating club to have some support from others who are trying to eat clean. Your success is inspiring!

    Hello, dalawna!

Yes, this is the first time I've ever experienced this amount of success, so I know where you are coming from! There was one time a few years ago that I gained ten pounds in a month from binging!!! I started in puberty and I've struggled with it pretty much my entire life. Luckily, I've always enjoyed exercise -- on and off through the years -- so that has helped to keep my wait down somewhat. Finally, I got fed up with fighting the cravings and decided to find a diet (The Eat Clean Diet) that did away with the source of them -- processed foods and sugars. It's been about a month and a half and it's working! Well, I can't say I'm losing a ton of weight because I don't have much to lose (thanks to Weight Watchers over the past couple of years), but I'm not binging, I'm not gaining, I feel healthy and full of energy, and best of all I feel in control of my food.

I think you'll find that MFP is a great source of support! There are a lot of positive and helpful people here. Welcome!

Today's workout: Upper body and abs

    Meal #1 (preworkout)
    3/4 c skim milk
    1/4 c egg whites
    Stevia

    Meal #2
    1/2 c multi-grain oatmeal (1 c cooked)
    1 sliced apple
    1/8 c trail mix
    1/4 c skim milk
    1/4 c egg whites
    Stevia
    1 c coffee
    2 T half and half

    Meal #3
    Turkey burger
    1 piece whole grain bread
    3/4 c baked french "fries"
    2 T homemade ketchup

    Meal #4
    1 whole grain tortilla
    1 T peanut butter
    1 c coffee
    2 T half and half

    Meal #5
    1 small banana
    28 almonds

    Meal #6
1 slice homemade whole wheat pizza
    1 c skim milk
    1 T unsweetened cocoa powder
    Stevia

I was at my calorie goal by meal #5 today. :ohwell: It didn't seem like I ate too much, but I didn't do any cardio today, so I didn't earn many calories. I also got an IBS stomach ache after the second cup of coffee. I guess my love affair with coffee was short lived! LOL. Maybe I just need to cut back, or stay away from the sludge they make at work.

Oh, it was too much eating out!!!! My IL's were here too and they are NOT clean eaters!!! We went out for Chinese food and I just had the salad bar (fresh veggies & fruits) and some chicken, salmon, and a couple sushi rolls. They ordered pizza and I came home and had some cold oatmeal (just soaked in light soymilk) w/ my usual fixin's. Then we ate out for lunch on Sunday and I had a grilled chicken salad and a bowl of chili.

We had a bad windstorm that I guess knocked down some lines and it took that long to get them back up & going!!! :frown:

OK, so my squeaky clean day turned into doing my best!! I did ChaLean Burn Circuit #1 and then did some Kettlebell swings, clean & presses, etc.

    Breakfast:
    My usual oatmeal

My brother & his best friend (visiting here from Oregon) wanted to do a tour of the capitol (Springfield, IL) and do some sight seeing so we packed up the girls & did that! I should have packed better...

    Lunch:
    Clif Oatmeal Raisin bar

(no snack, just coffee because there were NO healthy options at the cafe!)

    Dinner:
2 slices of Mediterranean Chicken Delite Papa Murphy's pizza (made w/ olive oil, feta cheese, chicken, spinach, and artichokes)
Assorted veggies- broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery

That's it, probably not enough but now it's almost 7:30 and I'm not eating now!!! I will make some SF cocoa in a bit!

Welcome, Dalawna! I am a former binge eater myself. Clean eating has really helped me w/ the sugar binges. I don't crave it anymore as long as I stay away from it! I call it white crack, once I start it is hard for me to stop!!

 Due to my husbands food issues years ago we have cut out 85 % of processed foods. We eat as much unprocessed as possible. My down fall is that I an a sugar addict which makes it doubley hard cause I have diabetes 2. Over the last year I have dropped diet sodas from 6-8 a day every day to 1 a day and usually don't finish a whole can. My short term goal is to cut out all soda. My long term goal is to quit sugar all together. Mainly I eat the sugar free stuff but usually that has a ton of calories and feeds the sugar addiction. What is the brand of peanut butter you're eating? I buy Adams Natrual and pour out the oil on top. Never miss it and its kind of gross to see all thae oil I'm eating anyway.

Thanks for the welcome! It's nice to know there are people who can relate. My first goals for eating clean are going to be: no white stuff (flour, rice, etc.), no treats, dessets, jam (anything with lots of sugar), and no eating after 7 pm ,since that seems to be when the binges happen the most.

My main problem is getting mad at myself for gaining weight and eating out of control, so then I eat to make myself feel better and then after I eat I feel worse than before. Even as I'm writing it, it sounds so dumb and easy to solve. So why is it so hard?!?!?!

I did run 3 miles this morning and after feeling down most of the morning , I did 8 min. buns, 8 min, abs, and 8 min. arms. Just doing that was empowering and I am feeling a little more upbeat!

    Thanks for listening!
  • Hi everyone! I have been sick and off the wagaon! I don't know but every time i eat out or eat the 'bad' foods, I fall off my healthy habits! no wonder i can't lose these last 10 pounds! It's exhausting at times! I really hope this new year's i can actually make a change in my lifestyle! Oh well Tomorrow is a new day!!! Wish me luck!
