i started out weighing 248lbs...i now weigh 205 which was my original goal, but that goal is now 185.
my clothes suck atm, flippin huge, my work uniforms look like karate GI's...those i have already ordered smaller, but i told my wife that im not buying any new clothes till i hit the 195lb mark...
its funny because my belt now is almost able to go around to the back loop behind me..lol
so i was thinking did you guys have similar goals when it came to buying new clothes?

I can't STAND when my clothes are way too loose. Unfortunately, that's not often a problem for me. If you don't want to invest in any new clothes right now, I recommend Goodwill or Value Village or a thrift store. Great stuff, and cheap! Then you don't need to worry about going broke before you hit your goal. It's what I'm planning to do.0

Nope. I'm approaching it differently. I picked up a few pairs of size 10s which I know I won't be in for a while because I JUST now can fit into 12s. As something to work towards. A tangible goal. But then again thrift stores make that possible...0

This suggests you've either not gained & lost weight before or that if you have you've cleared your wardrobe out each time. I have (UK) sizes 12 to 20 in my wardrobe from various stages in my life so can just pick the appropriate size as its needed - lol. I have taken plenty to charity shops over the years though so maybe it just proves how much I must've spent on clothes! I'd just buy at least one outfit in the right size as it'll be very motivational for you looking at the size label and putting it on and you'll get plenty of wear out of it - also tighter clothes will keep you on track as might be dangerous to have all those belt holes over! Good luck.0

I'm with deClaire on this one. I have my thin clothes in storage because the last time I lost weight (after an acrimonious split with my then long-term partner) I gave away all my Fat clothes and bought new ones. When I put the weight back on, the clothes I'd bought were still practically brand new, so I didn't want to give them away and I also wanted to keep them as an incentive to lose weight.
I would certainly get yourself a couple of pairs of Jeans - even if they are from Wall-Mart, K*Mart or Target. And maybe a few T-shirts too. You can always wear your big shirts open over them if you want.
But if you feel good in clothes, it'll spur you on to keep fit & healthy... :glasses:0 -
I had to buy new stuff once I started getting smaller than my "skinny clothes" that I had saved. Certain clothes you can still wear even when they're too loose. But things like jeans, bras, work uniforms, and tops that are meant to be tight fitting, just don't look right!
I work at a hospital and was tired of hearing people say "You're swimming in your scrubs!" so I had to buy some new ones! lol
It does suck though, because I have some jeans that I was only able to wear a few times before I had to go down another size!! It's definitely a good thing, but now I look back and think I probably should have tried the thrift store! But it's just so exciting having to get a smaller size!:)
As far as goal weight goes. Mine was 160, because I thought that's where I would feel comfortable. But now that I'm almost there, I'm thinking 150. Plus, that puts me JUST into the healthy BMI range!:)
Way to go on your weight loss!!:)0 -
goodwill is a good idea, my wife told me to go there already a few times....now i know why men should listen to their wives!0

I'm in the same boat. I haven't bought new clothes and a coworker already said "WTH are you wearing!!! because I'm basically swimming in my work slacks and tops. I was a very tight 18 (could have easily been a 20) and I found some 16's in my closet which fit well for a while but now I'm swimming in those too. I may have to budge and buy some on super sale or make a pitstop at Walmart/Target or Goodwill....we'll see. For now although uncomfortable I'm enjoying swimming in my clothes...lol!0

I'm a teacher and I was able to find some really great clothes at Goodwill. You have to really look, but they are there and you can get a lot more stuff with out hurting your wallet.0

Goodwill is a great idea and also check and see if you have any local consignment shops. I have a few near me, one that is very picky on clothes accepted. I consigned all of my 3x and 4x clothes and had an account with them that had those proceeds. Then I used that $ to buy clothes at a smaller size (now L or XL). So I wasn't out any money. I feel I'm still on the weight loss journey so I didn't want to invest in a whole new wardrobe - don't feel like I'm done yet. Some of the clothes are brand new with the tags still on them and I know most consignment shops will have a men's section. Worked for me!0

I'll be starting a new job soon, and though I've only lost 7 lbs so far, I'm super excited to be able to go shopping for smaller sized clothing!
I think maybe around 10 lbs lost I will see if I can fit into something smaller than what I currently wear.0 -
No, no weight target for getting new clothes, just went and shopped when the wife and the ladies I work with all went "Dude....new clothes...you need them..." I tried to keep it on the cheap (Target, Kohl's bargain racks, but I couldn't bring myself to Wal-Mart). Each trip I was surprised by what fit, which was nice.
Hopefully I'm at a point where I won't need new clothes for a while. And I hope and pray that I'll never have to buy bigger again.0 -
that's funny talking about your belt! last night my roommate walks in on me in the kitchen trying to make a new hole in my belt with a knife because it was too big! she was like"What are you doing??"0
