Traveling for a living and dieting

Is there anyone else that travels on average of 3-4 days a week? I really would like to know what some of your tips are for managing to eat within your allowed calorie count and maintain your weight loss. I just started the site this week and my travel plans this week were cancelled due to Hurricane Irene. However, next week it's back to the road. I really don't want the hustle and bustle of the road to get the better of me as it always does. Of course finding time to exercise in between flights and then of course just trying to eat sensibly is so hard.......HELP

Hi there! I feel your pain. While I don't travel quite as much as you do, here are my strategies:
1. if I have my laptop I always bring a workout dvd or two to do in my room in case there is no hotel gym or the hotel gym is lame and only has a couple machines
2. Get familiar with "healthy" options at fast food restaurants and don't even look at the menu -- just order a salad or smoothie. For fast casual and better restaurants, I tend to not look at the menu so as not to be tempted. I just order broiled fish or chicken, a green salad, a side of steamed veggies.
3. Water. It seems that when I'm traveling I just can't get enough!
4. iPhone app--having the MFP app on my phone makes it much easier to track
5. I aways pack a pair of running shorts, tennis shoes, 2 pairs of running socks, 2 tanks and a sports bra. Then I don't have the excuse that my shirt is sweaty and gross, or that I don't have my gear....
6. Get out of the mindset that you are on vacation. Ha! This is hard for me--even if I'm traveling for work I tend to think I'm on a vaca and want to splurge. Just remind yourself that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels -- really!
Hope that helps. Feel free to friend me!0 -
Sunshine girl thanks so much sometimes i do feel like i'm on vacation especially with a $70 per diem a day. So pretty much i can eat whatever my heart desires and that is the problem. I'm so excited though i just got my ZUMBA EXHILIRATE DVDs in the mail which i plan to pack and take on the road with me. I will definitely try to stop looking at the menus and just order what i know is healthy.
I probably should get a smart phone i am just not a fan of the touch phones and i am a big texter.
Thanks for the advise.0 -
Wow, with a $70 day per diem can you use that money to go to a good gym near your hotel? Or stop at a healthy grocery and purchase raw nuts, healthy granola bars, etc. that you can have with you in your bag for healthy snacks? Maybe you can use that $70 pd to get a massage!0

Yes i must think healthy stores because it has normally been going to some very nice restaurants and a glass or two of wine with dinner.
I have to totally re-program my way of eating on the road. I really think your suggestions will help.0
