I started taking L-Carnitine, CLA and Lecithin to help with weight loss after reading spectacular things about each of them. I first time I read about it was on MFP.
Of course, I am also eating well and exercising. Same as before only now I am taking these supplements. I have to purchase L-Carnitine online because it is not sold in Canada.

I am doing my weigh in on Monday. :)

I was just really curious if anyone else is taking the same supplements? What is your experience with taking them? Did they help with your weight loss?

Thanks!!!!! :)

I believe that L-Carnitine is available by perscription only in Canada, and the doc has to ask for coverage for it. My son was on it when he was 2, due to seizures.

Carnitine has not been scientifically shown to help with weight loss. It's generally for heart problems and male infertility. Some of it's side effects may help lose weight, but that's not it's primary purpose. Although one of it's side effects is increased appetite, which seems counter-productive. CLA can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes if not used correctly. Tread carefully. CLA hasn't been studied nearly enough from what I can tell. And CLA studies on weight loss show that it may help you lose 1 pound of fat in 5 weeks. I wouldn't really think it worth the potential side effects.

I have to correct you actually.
There is sufficient proof. They have done clinical studies. There was a study done on nineteen people. They gave nine of them L-Carnitine and the other nine a placebo. The group that took L-Carnitine lost an average of eleven pounds. Whereas the group taking the placebo lost a average of one pound.

Nineteen people is not a statistically large enough sample to draw realistic conclusions. How many other clinical studies have been done? Do you have any links?
