My dr said most people should try for at least 30 minutes of cardio a day.

At least 30 minutes 3 times a week....but I get results with 7 days a week for an hour, but I'm a nut when it comes to exercise! Some people do 5-6 days a week for an hour. My biggest reason for working my butt off is I'm in a compition with my hubby and it keeps my motivation high.

depends. If you have never done it, you could a) hurt yourself b)over do it.

start small and work your way up. walking, biking, 1/2 hour fitness classes, and you will find what you like, what works, and your level.

From Monday- Today I have done 5x workouts only for about 30 mins each and I have lost 7.8 lbs as well as watching what I eat ! Everyone has their own ways for loosing weight xx

Be careful take it easy at first and work upwards if you want to !

Intensity is as important as time -- Jillian Michaels 30 day shred is about 25 min, but pretty intense. It burns a lot more calories and raises your heart rate a lot more than a 1-hour walk. Quality over quantity!

It's going to vary from person to person. The key is to get your heart rate up while you are exercising, so that you are getting the most benefit from it.

"30 minutes a day, 3 times a week" is a good start, but it should be intense (ie, break a sweat). The last exercise consult I had suggested 4-5 times a week for "30 minutes or longer".

Me personally, I try to hit the treadmill 6 days a week for 45-50 minutes at a time. But that's just me being OCD, trying to un-do the damage I've done by letting myself go over the last 20 years. LOL

I'm no expert but the majority of the cardiac physicians tell us that we need to get our heart rate up to our own individual target rate & keep it there for at least 30 minutes/day for 4-5 sessions/week.

I don't set a time limit for my workouts, other than when a specific class has a set timeframe, or of course when I have to get finished in time to be somewhere else.

I think the key to getting and staying fit is incorporating fun activities that involve movement -- think outside the gym!

My weekly workouts consist of dance classes, rehearsals and performances, bike rides, spin classes and SUPing (stand-up paddleboarding) on either the ocean or lagoon.

This is a great time of year (barring Irene, of course--ha), to get outside, walk, run, rollerblade, ride a bike (road or mountain), hike, swim, rock climbing, SUP, surf, etc.

Do you have an REI or similar store near you? If so, check out their activities calender -- also local YMCAs and bike stores often have cycling clubs that are free. If you don't have a bike, maybe someone you know will lend you one, or check craigslist or similar for a used one.

Once you get outdoors in the fresh air and get involved in a social, fun activity, you won't be watching the clock for the activity to end, you'll be wishing you had MORE time to devote!

    blessings.

I workout a minimum of 5, usually 6 days a week. If I'm at my kickboxing class it's an hour, if I go to the gym usually like 1.5 hours. I've actually been feeling that if I skip a day (not my usual day off) I feel off and tired the rest of the day and I usually workout in the morning. I take Tuesday off usually since I work in the morning and I am exhausted after work (which I hate).

It all depends if you are working out any now. Going from nothing to 30-60 minutes a day will almost guarentee you will injure something. If you are doing nothing now, I would start out walking for 10-30 minutes every other day. I would not increase activity until you are comfortable at 30 minutes. Then you can start adding other activites and increase duration if desired. It is best to switch up diferent activities so you don't get overuse injuries. I alternate jogging, biking, eliptical and just walking (occasionally some swimming). Jogging pounds my legs/feet, so the next day I try to bike to give my feet a rest. After you get in shape some, I would make a goal of exercising 5-6 days a week. You body really neads a day off a week to rest and heal.

Now that I am in fairly good shape, I shoot for 60 minutes a day. I frequently break it up (~ 40-50 minutes jogging/biking at lunch and ~ 20 minutes walking at night).

About the sweating question. Yes the higher the intensity, the more calories you will burn and you will loose faster, but I would not increase intensity too fast and let your body adapt to exercising first.

Losing weight is about your metabolism, so some may need to exercise longer than others to achieve the same results. Some can get by with just 15 minutes a day, and some HAVE to do an hour. It's so dependent on your genetics, fitness level, and metabolism.
I say stay in till you burn 300-500 calories. If you do it in a short time fine. Longer time then that's what you do.

Not true. Sweating isn't a great indication of a good workout. I lightly sweat when I workout and I'm more than sure many people who are "sweaters" wouldn't be able keep up.

My workout is about an hour. I do 10 minutes on the stair master, 10-20 minutes on the elliptical, 35 minutes on the treadmill. Mixed in are crunches and plank lifts.

I do this 3 to 4 times a week. Then two days a week I do about 40 minutes of strength training.

    God bless!

I work out between 30-90 minutes a day, depends on how I ate that day, etc.

I joined the gym about 12 weeks ago, that accompanied by diet has lost me 25lbs and 20cms off my body.

At first i used to try and go three times a week, having a day at least between sessions to 'rest'.

I'm now finding i don't need the day in between and have just started jogging as it's an ambition to start running!

As an almost 300lb woman 15 months ago i now have aspirations of being almost half the woman i was then and am within grasp of the dream!

One day, i will run along my streets and nobody will look and laugh :)
