I measurenaround my belly button - purely cos it stays where it is and is a reference point to put the tape in the same place. Its also my smallest part:wink:

I have a handy little horizontal surgical scar right in the center of my abdomen at my smallest point. I just use it to remember where to put the measuring tape ;-)

I would measure the smallest place, because if you were wearing a skirt or trousers, the thinnest part is where they would sit.

Your waist is about 1 inch above your belly button.

I must have a high belly button:laugh:, all my clothes sit below my belly button

    I actually measure 3 areas:

    1. the smallest area of my waist which for me is easily found by bending slighly forward because I can see the indention on both sides that way...I put the measuring tape there, then stand up straight and get the number.

    2. around the belly button

    3. around my kangaroo pouch, as I call it, which is below the belly button yet above the hip bones.

When I buy clothes, pants and skirts typically fit below my belly button but sometimes right at it...never above it. For my body, that smallest waist measurement is just, well, something to measure to see changes. If I wore clothes there, I would look like Steve Urkel from Family Matters...
