I just finished Day 17 of Cycle 2 and I've lost 15 pounds (8 during C1 and 7 during C2) and 71/2 inches!! My husband's been "sort of" doing the diet...and he's lost 22lbs! I start Cycle 3 tomorrow...I'm looking forward to having a slice of toast! Anyone else having success? I love that all the day's food is laid out for 17 days so I don't have to really plan any meals...I just eat what it tells me to. Does anyone have any extra recipes that fit the diet? A couple site I've found for extra recipes: http://thedoctorstv.com/TheDoctorsBoard1/posts/10116-CYCLE-1-RECIPE-LINKS

Let's motivate each other!! :o)

The 17 day diet was written by Dr Mike Moreno. It's a low carb diet that goes in 4 cycles to avoid platuea. Perhaps google it or pick up the pick for more info

I had my doubts if I would actually stick with it but it's been awesome! And, you only completely go without carbs the 1st 17 days. The next 17, you can have 1 natural starch every other day (like a baked potato, brown rice, etc...), and 3rd cycle you can start having a little bread and even 1 dessert/day! Which as I just posted, I am very excited about. To have gone 34 days without a dessert (excluding sugar-free yogurt) or bread has been a major breakthrough for me. The best part? After Day 4 of Cycle 1, I no longer even craved the stuff. In fact, I have had a half-gallon of ice cream that's been in my freezer since I started and I haven't been tempted once! Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure why I even left it in there...I'm going to throw that thing out tomorrow and replace with the box of Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches that I can start eating as of tomorrow...WOO-HOO!! Another benefit of this diet for me? All the extra energy I have! I admit, Day 1-Day 5 of Cycle 1, I was extremely sluggish and absolutely had to cut down on exercising (usually do zumba 3 days/week and tennis 2 days/week). I could barely make it through a whole tennis match. But after Day 5 my body rebounded and I've had loads of energy ever since! I even exercise 6 days/week now. Anyway, for anyone thinking about starting...why not today? What have you got to lose except weight? :o)

I have a lot to lose but so far I am on day 8 of cycle 1 and I am down 11.4 lbs. I ma loving it. I kicked my Diet Coke addiction also. Don't let the low carb scare you off. I am averaging 90 carbs a day in veggies, fruit and yogurt. I cant wait to see where I am at the end of the first round. http://www.17daydietblog.com has a good outline of the diet, I would still get the book for the details.

Just finished C3D7 and down 3 more pounds this week! (18 lbs. total so far) Granted, I do exercise a lot (that's never been my problem). Finally getting my eating under control has been awesome! It's so funny, I was really looking forward to the extra snacks this cycle...but out of the 7 days, I've only had 2. I just wasn't hungry for them! Never thought I'd be able to say that...LOL! :o) Oh, and I looked in the mirror today and I saw collar bones...I love those things...;-)

Congratulations to everyone on their successes so far! Today I started R2, C1, D1. During the first R1, I lost 8 lbs on C1, 7 lbs on C2, and 6 lbs on C3. After today, I'm already looking forward to C2...lol. It's amazing how your body just craves starches. I want my baked sweet potato! But, I can do without anything for 17 days! I have about 40 pounds left to lose...hopefully 2 more rounds will do it. Good luck to you all! :o)

do u think the people in UK will be able to follow this??? (food wise)

To all you 1st timers, Round 2 of Cycle 1 has been sooooo much easier! I have tons more energy and have been able to keep up with my regular exercise routine. Total loss for Round 1: 21 pounds! I just finished R2C1D8 and I've lost 3 more pounds...YEA! Only 33 more to lose...and only 9 more days until I get to enjoy my beloved baked potato and black bean turkey chili...YUM! Good luck to you all!! :o)

Well, I've had 2 days completely off the diet this week...we had friends come to town and I decided that since I made it completely through Round 1 (without any cheats) and then went straight back to Cycle 1, I was going to take a couple of days off. Not like me, but I needed a little break. I did manage to stay completely away from sweets (my usual downfall) and only drank water, lemon water, or green tea. We ate out for 3 meals and I did NOT order salad! Anyway, I thought it would give me an idea on how much I would gain if I splurge for two days and then eat super healthy the other 5 days (a little 17DD, Cycle 4 preview). I had planned on keeping up with a little exercise those 2 days but, other than walking around the Animal Kingdom, it didn't happen. I'll let you guys know how the scale reacts on Monday! I would have been moving on to Cycle 2 on Sunday, but I'm going to stay on C1 two extra days to try to even things out. Punishing myself...lol. I was really looking forward to that baked potato (and some hummus and celery...my favorite snack on C2 and C3) Sunday too! On another topic, I have my 2nd 5K tomorrow morning at Disney's Animal Kingdom! YEA!

Still losing weight consistently, even with the two days off last week (ate out 3 times...YIKES!) Since July 26th, I've lost 32 pounds! I only have 1 pound to lose until I'm "normal." Never thought I'd be able to go from obese to normal weight in under 3 months...I guess anything really IS possible! Since the beginning of September I've made a goal to burn b/t 4000-5000 calories a week (trying to keep the 2-3 pound weight loss/wk the same is a lot harder when you're 30 pounds lighter!) but other than that I don't do anything special except stick to the 17DD. I'm now on R2C2D8. Only 9 more days until I get those Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches back. I'm really craving a chocolate dessert. A couple of nights ago I baked an apple with some cinnamon and Truvia sprinkled on top. It was delicious! Hope everyone is having great success! Have a great week! :o)

I'm normal! (BMI, that is...lol) I finally reached 159 this week, the high end BMI weight for my height (5'7")!! I am so excited. I've lost 33 pounds in 11 weeks. :noway: I've been on exercise kicks before but this is the first eating lifestyle that has clicked for me. I just feel so much better! I start R3C3 Tuesday and I think I may just stay on Cycle 3 until I lose the rest of the weight (at least 24 more pounds). If I don't continue to lose at least 4 pounds every 17 days on C3, I will start a new round. Keep up the good work, everyone!

**I sent this to someone asking for 17DD tips**

Welcome to the club! To answer your questions, I followed the book's menu suggestions exactly during all 3 cycles (the first round). The second time around I just ate the recipes that I liked the first time. I've taken a few weeks off from the diet and am going to be starting my third (and, hopefully, final) round next Tuesday. So, feel free to check out my diary anytime if you want ideas. But, like I mentioned, I just follow the menu (the soup and chili (in Cycle 2) are awesome!) in the book, for the most part. As far as exercise goes, I had weekly calorie burning goals. I tried to burn 3,000 calories/week during round 1 (although, for the first 4 days of the diet I had no energy and just walked my dog 30 minutes/day...after day 4 I felt great!). After round 1, my goal has been to burn 5,000 calories/week; sometimes I burn more. If I'm really tired, I take the day off or just take my dog for a walk. I lost 21 pounds during R1 and 17 pounds during R2. I have 19 pounds left to lose! :o)

    Some tips:
    1. Definitely add Truvia or Stevia to the lemon water and green tea (I also make up a jug of sweetened, with Stevia, green tea to keep in the fridge...this way I don't have to boil water every time).
    2. Keep a notebook of what you eat each day and your weight. (I actually planned out my meals a week in advance and if it wasn't written on that day...I couldn't eat it!). The notebook really helps you keep track of what you didn't like and how much weight you lost. This is really helpful during Cycle 2, 3 and future rounds. I just look back in my notebook each week to plan meals. Also, writing my weight down each day helped me stay motivated. I really think the notebook is what kept me on the diet!
    3. Exercise: Just do as much as you can...my mother-in-law lost 11 pounds during Cycle 1 doing no exercise...I lost 8 pounds doing a lot of exercise. But it set me up to continue losing consistently whereas she has slowly tapered off (I usually lose 2-3 pounds/wk; she loses 1/wk).
    4. Don't cheat! Once you get through the first 51 days, fine, throw in a cheat here and there. But at least get through the first round (at the very least the first Cycle). So many people wonder why they are not losing much and it's usually because they are not following the diet exactly. Plus, how will you know if the diet's working for you if you're not following it?

If you have any other questions, just let me know!

Just realized I haven't updated in a while. In October I stayed on Cycle 3 for two weeks and then in November I took a couple of weeks off (still counting calories just not being very strict on what foods I ate). On November 15, I decided to complete another round of the 17DD (3rd round for me). I stuck with it until Thanksgiving, had a few non-compliant days and then back on. I'm on Cycle 2 now. Unlike the first 2 rounds, though, I can not say that I'm 100% compliant. I always have the lemon water and the 3 cups of green tea daily but I sometimes throw in a snack that fits into my calorie allowance but not the 17DD. As I'm getting closer to my goal weight (12 pounds away) I seem to have lost the desire to lose as quickly as possible. I'm still losing, just not as quickly as I once was. I've lost 12 more pounds since Oct. 15th (about 1.5 pounds/wk as opposed to my 3 lb/wk avg. when I was strictly following the diet). Anyway, I guess now I just kind of use the diet as a guide and cleansing tool when needed. I'm sure when Cycle 3 comes up I will be able to follow it completely because of the allowed snacks and additional foods. I probably should have just stuck with Cycle 3 like I originally had planned. This time when I finish the round I will just stick to Cycle 3 and lose slowly. I hope to be at my goal weight by February 26, 2012 (running my first half marathon!) I wish all of you good luck on your weight loss journey. Email me anytime if you have any questions or just need some encouragement.

Hi, everyone! Just wanted to say that I haven't really been following the 17DD this month. I've been losing about 1 lb/wk just watching calories and exercising though. I'm about 9 pounds away from my goal weight. I think I'm going to try one more round after my birthday in January. I'm hoping to be at goal by Feb. 26th (my first half-marathon). I'm going to need all those cleansing foods after the month of December. Oh, how I love desserts! My goal for December has been to just not gain any weight but I've actually lost 3 pounds! If anyone is thinking about starting the 17 DD in January, friend me! I'm going to need all the help I can to stick with it this time!! Thanks!

Nice little NSV!!! I put on my high school jeans (17 year old jeans-I've kept them all this time because they were the last ones I felt I looked good in) tonight before I left for work and they FIT!!! They weren't even tight (even a little baggy in the butt)!! I can't wait until those suckers fall off...

I've lost 50 pounds (192 to 142...only 10 more to go!) and 5 dress sizes (16 to 6...only one more to go!) since July 26, 2011!! I changed a lot of things starting that day (the day my niece said my butt was big! A fact that I knew but never wanted to hear!!)...I went on the 17 Day Diet (which actually is just a healthy way of eating, not really a diet and it lasts 51 days ...which I've repeated 3 times). I started going to the gym regularly (when before it was just whenever I felt like it)...went from going 2-3 times/wk for 60-90 minutes to now going 4-5 times/wk for 2-3 hours (I vary my workouts to include any variation of: running, elliptical, spinning, aerobics classes, strength classes)!! And I play tennis or ride my bike the days I don't go to the gym (before July I didn't do anything on the other days). And I walk my dog, Bella, 1.5 miles almost every day (before July I walked her 1 mile, 3 times/wk at most). I also joined My Fitness Pal. At first I joined just to keep up with my calories burned during exercise but now I log calories eaten/burned and know exactly how much I will lose every week! And seeing so many other people losing weight and being successful is encouraging as well. And then there's running...well, I signed up last May to run a half marathon with my sister-in-law that takes place at Walt Disney World next month. I started out in July with running 3 minutes/walking 1 minute and repeating as many times as I could (which at the time I think was twice!) Every week I would increase the run time/decrease walk time (which I guess would be the C25K program...I just didn't know about it back then!) And now I can run 6 miles continuously in 60 minutes! Although I usually just run 2-4 miles twice/wk and another 5-6 miles once/wk. I try to burn 5,000 calories/wk (an MFP challenge I've completed since September) and not eat tons of sweets (and NO fast food!) I now average a weight loss of about 1-2 pounds/wk (the first 4 months I was losing 2-4 lbs/wk). That's one of the disadvantages of losing weight...it takes a LOT more energy to keep losing it...I wish I could still burn 1000 calories/hr!! Sorry this was long...I really just wanted to say that I hope everyone has a very successful 2012!! :o)

Thanks! I didn't do any diet before the 17 Day Diet. I just could not lose weight before I went on it because even though I worked out at the gym a few days a week I couldn't get my eating habits/cravings under control. All of the weight I've lost on MFP has been while I've been following the 17DD. Once I got past the first cycle of the diet, I had SO much more energy and started going to the gym/running almost every day. And I haven't looked back since. Oh, and I've gotten so many wonderful comments about my profile picture and that was just after 37 pounds lost. I've lost 15 pounds since then...I guess I should take another picture! I also want to point out that my food diary is open to the public and while I followed the diet perfectly the first round my 2nd and 3rd rounds were FAR from perfect and I still continued to lose weight...I just realized I sound like a 17DD spokesperson...sorry! Now I just stick to a MFP 1 pound/wk loss calorie goal. I still drink the lemon water, green tea (two cups) and take a probiotic supplement everyday (I ate the yogurt the first 2 rounds on the diet and then decided I couldn't eat that anymore...I never liked it; plus it freed up more calories to eat more yummy things!) I sometimes still make recipes from the book but mostly just do my own thing now, within reason. Hope this helps!

OMG!! You look great. I've been a yo-yo Dieter for awhile now and so tired of it. I'm 242 now :(. I did lose to 194 a few years back but when husband went to Afghanistan Dec. of 2010 I end up gaining everything back. He is now home safe and sound so the worrying isn't there anymore. I know I can do this just need to getting going and focus on it for me. I have the 17 day diet book and seeing how great it has been for you I plan to start it tomorrow . Any tips are appreciated . I plan to do the Firm express dvd's and my elliptical 3 days a week and the two days off just do little things that help . Once I get going with it go to 5 days a week, that way I work into it slowly but then get back to working out like I use to. I'm new to posting so bare with me. Once again congrats on the success you have had.
My goal is to first get under the 200 lbs one lb at a time.
