Spinach salad from the grocery store, says to eat before the 25th. It's probably fine, right?

They can't SELL it after that date. It doesn't go bad on that date.
  • yah i'd say you are good to go. Just look at the spinach & make sure its not wilty and nasty looking.
  • no if it says eat by 25th thats what they mean, if it said best before 25th then yes you can eat it but it won't be at its best,

Sell by and use by dates are a guideline! It will be good to eat up to that date, but afterwards there are no gurantees. However, most things last up to a week past their useby dates, so long as you know what to look out for, one of the best ways of shopping is to go to the shop late one night and buy a loat of stuff from the reduced isle and eat it [ast the date, 99% of the time it's still good. Which is how come freegans haven't died off yet. The only thing I won't use past the date are things like milk because I can't smell until it's very off, and it doesn't change texture until it's very off either. Salad...look at it, does it look ok? Yes? Then it still is. Does it look soft and wilted? Bin it now!
  • Look at the leaves. If they're not mushy and still green, go for it.
