POLL: Daily Calories Burned with HRM?

I got a Polar HRM for Christmas! So awesome!!
My 24-hour calorie expenditure was 4000. I was shocked! Seemed pretty high to me, and was just a normal, lazy, hanging out Christmas day! I can't even imagine when it is a normal day of chasing after four kids, mounds of laundry, housework, errands, etc!
So anyways, I just was curious - everyone that has a HRM, approximately how many calories do you burn in a normal day?

Mine says that I burned 2400 calories, and I was a total slug today (Santa Claus brought me a cold for Christmas!! )0

What I don't understand is, if you have a high heart rate like 100, won't it say you're burning more just by sitting around vs. someone who's resting heart rate is 60?0
-
Yeah, that does make sense raincloud. I'm not worried about it for my own sake, because most of the time it is around 70-80bpm, unless I am up and around and working around the house, then it is more around 100bpm or so.
When I re-set it at Noon today, and it is now 11:00pm Pacific time, I have already burnt 2236 calories .... and that was doing some housework, laundry, etc. today. So, I imagine by Noon tomorrow, I will probably be closer to about 5000 calories burned for 24 hours. NICE!!!!!
I am LOVING it!0 -
Steff,
Does that model have the chest strap?
I had a diff. model - one without a chest strap. It said I was burning 700 to 800 calories per exercise (1 hour). Fortunately for me - the HRM quit working. When I traded it in, I got the Polar F6 WITH the chest strap. Now when I do an hour exercise, I burn 300 to 400 calories. In my experience, the ones without the chest strap are not as accurate! Imagine what happens when you try to eat your exercise calories AND they are double what they really were!0 -
I think for the New Year I am going to treat myself to an appt at a Nutritionist. See what they have to say about diet and weight loss.
My HRM shows I burn approx 100 cals an hour in a normal woman's day
A womans day.....get out of bed, pick up dirty clothes on floor, throw wadded paper in trash, put trash in bigger trash bag, add other trash to it, bring it out to the curb, make coffeee, take out the dogs, straighten up the couch and chair covers, fill dog food and water, put in a load of laundry, get cup of coffee...let dogs in, clean paw prints from dogs, dry dogs, put laundry in drier. Go to ladies room, clean sink, wipe up floor from clipped mustache hair, change toilet paper roll, wash hands, scrub out tub, wipe down toilet and add bleach to bowl, throw out empty can of shaving cream, pick up towels/wash clothes, put them in laundry, start another load, fold the 1st load, refill the coffee. Look around.....sit down....whew, thank God it is finally 7 AM.

FloridaGranny-Mine is a Polar F4 and it has the chest strap. If I recall correctly, Steff just got the same one I did:happy:0 -
I read somewhere, not sure where, that the HRM doesn't calculate calories burned correctly if you wear it all day, just doing normal activities. Don't quote me on it, I will have to go look. Something about it over estimating calories burned.
But let me note I have always wanted to wear my F6 all day just to see, but haven't done it yet for some reason. Hey it might tell me I am more active than I think and up my calorie intake:laugh:0 -
Yep, mine does have the chest strap! When I was researching them, I had read that the models without weren't very accurate.
I hadn't heard the thing about it over-estimating your calories though. I am at 4000 calories right now, and have two hours left in my 24-hour period..... so I am guessing I will be around 4500 or so by Noon.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is an accurate number though, because I am going, going, going ALL DAY LONG. Have four young kids, clean the house 5 times a day, several loads of laundry, etc. The few minutes I do take to sit down and check email and MFP, that is just so I can catch my breath!! LOL!
Anyone else have calorie burned numbers to report?0 -
I have been home a LOT with my husband. I realized over these past few weekends I NEVER stop! and he is always sitting!
He finally yelled at me on Christmas....PLEASE just SIT!
I dont like being in the same place for too long!
