It depends. Honestly I skip my long run the night after giving blood or have to cut it short because I haven't been running that long so running is still pretty intense for me. I make sure I get my work out in before I donate on that day.
It's important to make sure you drink enough fluids and eat some extra after you donate blood for at least a couple of days.
I donate every 6 weeks and feel it's worth giving up ONE of my workouts every 6 weeks for such a good thing!!0 -
Have you given blood before? If so how does it make you feel?
Ordinarily yes, you should be alright, but if it makes you feel very faint then I'd advise against it. I need a full 24 hours to recover every time.so I'd have to give blood during the day to do something the next night. But my iron count is only barely above the minimum a lot of the time. I'm also one of those that takes longer and gets the fan put on them afterwards.0 -
you donate blood every 6 weeks !!! we are only allowed to donate once every 16 weeks
quote from giving blood website -: # How often can I give blood?
We advise donors to donate at an average of 16 weeks or more. Donors who attend at intervals of less than 16 weeks may be at risk of iron deficiency.0 -
I do it all the time. Say I give blood Monday afternoon, I do my regular spinning class the next day. I always feel fine.0

I think is just a 12 hour wait before you go back to hardcore...could be 24 hours, either way I think you are fine. I just don't do a hard workout the night that I donate and go back to normal the next day.
Giving blood is far to important so thank you for doing it!!0 -
I think it just depends on how well you do after you give blood. I get so weak I'm not the same for a month or two.0

i have given blood once before and felt fine afterwards. i was not doing any exercise then either so- i guess i will just see how i feel. i only take bootcamp once a week and it is like a top priority workout for me but you are so right that giving blood is worth far more than just one workout.0

You not in the US? Here we donate every 56 days actually, so I guess that's more like 8 weeks. I've NEVER been iron deficient. I don't even eat red meat either.
They prick your finger and check hemoglobin level before donation, along with blood pressure.
So yup I donated every time I can. I'm a regular scheduled appointment
I'm the girl who faints almost every time too. I can't help it I have a vagus nerve response, so I have to lay down for awhile afterward so it doesn't happen. I'm back to my normal routine within 24-48 hours usually, it's only running that I have to skip the next day and my guess is by the next donation it won't be a big deal to do it the next day for me!0 -
In UK, guess we do it a lot different over here, been giving blood for 2 years now :happy:0

Wow we have a shortage a lot here even with being able to donate more often. Do you hear that you have shortages? Or do you think more people do it because it's allowed less often?
Here we can start donating at 16, so I've been doing it awhile!0 -
says on news we have shortage, but we are not allowed to donate more than 3 times a year0
