I've read lots of posts about it, but still don't understand. If I go way over on sodium, then will drinking extra water balance it out? Any help would be appreciated :)

You should be drinking water every day at least 64oz a day. As for the salt dont go over. BUt what can help is adding lemon to the water to help flush some of the salt out
  • my understanding is that you do need lots of water, but i believe the liver can't "metabolize" (or get rid) of the excess sodium without some help - i recently had a severe case of edema - long story short, the doc put me on a blood pressure pill which also functions as a diuretic - it only took a couple of days before i could tell the difference - but keep in mind there are lots of good foods out there that are low in sodium - and as it turns out MANY of the low-sodium foods are also low in calories! ...but the BEST advise i can give you is to talk to your doctor!! feel free to friend me if you wish - i'm reddebsings - you can take a peek at my food diary for some good ideas of low-sodium foods - but another thing i found out the hard way is that when you start flushing your excess sodium, you need to increase your potassium intake - well, at least that's how it was for ME! ...i began having severe charlie horses in my calves and feet - bumping up my potassium fixed that - but again, i can't stress enough to check with your doctor!
