I've noticed that when I eat meat, I don't have the strength and stamina compared to not eating meat before my run.

So don't eat meat before a run. I'm a vegetarian, so ideally I'd say "so don't eat meat" period, but you know..whatever. Before a workout, I usually eat something light about half an hour to an hour before. I run at 8 pm, though, and I make sure I eat dinner no later than 5:30 so I don't have that sluggish heavy feeling after a big meal.
  • Your body is probably focused on digestion. Don't run right after you eat.

Meat is much harder to digest and probably taking up the energy you could be using to work out.
Some random articles I found on web; can't speak to their accuracy (esp the 2nd one)

  • Everything I have read on the subject says complex carbs before, protein after.

Your body needs carbs before a run, to get glycogen to your muscles more rapidly. It takes much longer for protein to break down, get to your bloodstream and provide energy to fuel aerobic activity. Protein is better *after* a workout when your muscles are repairing themselves.

But, I'm eating.a combo. Specificly meat. If I have a mushroom omlete with some Ccarbs I run with the wind. If I have a turkey omlete with Ccarbs, I am sluggish.

Mushrooms are practically a condiment...a cup only has 15 cals. The protein in the turkey is not fueling your body during your run, and is instead drawing away some caloric energy to break it down instead of all of your carbs going to fuel your run.
