Hi MFPs!

I joined MFP 2 weeks ago and have lost 5 lbs - yay! I've only been calorie counting and not started exercise yet.

I had a hysterectomy 9 weeks ago and wasn't active prior to my op. I'd now like to make a start on exercise but am a bit scared about what to do.

Common sense tells me to start gently but what exercise should I start with/how much/how often?

I am "apple" shaped (which you'll see in my awful "now" profile photos ) and want to focus on my middle area.

Any advice welcome........Thanks!

if you are new to exercising anyway, and after having your op, i would say start out simple with walking? the most imprtant thing is to find stuff that you enjoy and things that fit into your routine. my aim is to do at least 3 times per week, for half an hour. most weeks i can fit in 5-6 times, but if i am busy as long as i do 3 times i am happy. you should probably ask your doctor as well.

Yeah, walking is always the best way to start. You can go at your own pace and work it up gradually.

Yep, walking is the best. It's also a weight- bearing exercise, so it's good for the bones, which us girls need to help fight off osteosporosis

Thanks for the advice. I went out today and walked briskly for 30 mins.

I keep reading about everyone doing so much more & I want to catch up! But I know I've got to start somewhere!
