Loooove dairy

I think the recommended serves of dairy is 3 in a day, on an average day, I think I'd really struggle to limit my intake to that. Primarily when eating meals with no meat, I like to have a little (or a lot) of cheese to savory it all up. I also like plain yogurt with curry, coffee with milk and flavoured milk.
Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on how much is too much and how it may be detrimental.

Dairy could be stalling your weight loss efforts. Just try to cut it for 2 weeks and see what happens. Nothing to lose. Why would you be eating meals without meats? Are you Vegetarian? You need to make sure you are getting enough protein.0

I would say it's too much when you have to go over on calories to get enough other food to cover your daily nutrients. I don't think dairy is unhealthy but much of it is high calorie so eating too much and staying withing your calorie goals may mean skimping on foods that provide valuable vitamins and other nutrients not found in dairy.0

Actually it is 2 -2.5......unless you are at the age around menopause.0

It's not just your protein that you need to consider - make sure you're getting enough calcium to prevent osteoporosis later in life - and this can be affected by a number of things including some methods of birth control. Go with low fat dairy and you'll still get your calcium with fewer calories, or perhaps find an alternative source x0

Damn Australian government with your 3 serves a day misinformation.
Some good food for thought here. I've made my diary public so anyone who wants to can have a gawk. I haven't really paid much attention to the other aspects of the daily tally, just calories, most things stay under most days, sometimes protein and fat go over. I also haven't really watched my weight too closely either although it is early days yet. It does seem to have diminished by a couple of kilos since discovering this site (late last year). I fell off the wagon for a while though and have only just gotten back on.
The two week cut and wait and see could be an interesting experiment for me :-)
I'd call myself pseudo vegetarian (not opposed to eating meat but loathe to financially prop up farms producing it the way it's being produced at the moment, ergo, delightedly eat kangaroo and free-range pig/chook) so, there are plenty of meat free dishes in my repertoire. One thing I've noticed is that, having become accustomed to meat (I grew up on a vegetarian diet), meat free dishes just don't fill me up like they used to (even the ones full of beans), this is one reason why I drown them in cheese.
I did hear from a nurse once that our bodies need to fat to use the calcium effectively (same as I heard we need to eat spinach with grains to get the iron benefits).0 -
You may benefit from adding some healthy fats - avocado, coconut oil, nuts, Omega 3's. These really help fill you up along with providing added health benefits. I stay keep up on the free-range, get some eggs in and see what happens if you dump the dairy for a couple weeks.
Good Luck!0 -
Definitely sold on the avocado, tried subbing that for cheese in my normal breakfast sandwich, tasted ok, def brought the calories down :-). And I had a soy latte instead of skim. MIght not cut dairy entirely but can certainly have a crack at reducing where the option presents itself.0
