Are the heart rate watches pretty accurate?

Per my understanding, the watches with the chest straps are the most accurate.

They are... I have one... but the straps to your chest are much better.... I would get one of those... the watch I got is 70$ and it works.. but sometimes it skips a bit...

The most accurate ones are the ones that come with a chest strap. I'm not sure about the ones that are just a watch as I've never used one.
  • I have a Polar, which came with the chest strap and yes, it is. In fact, it helped me out in a situation where my heart rate had dropped below normal and the medication that I take had to be switched. So, if you can, get a Polar...it's worth it!
  • My polar HRM was only $70 AND it came with a chest strap. They are much easier to use. No having to fumble around while you are working out.

The watch only ones are not accurate in the slightest... Only the ones with a chest strap give accurate calorie estimations.

Polar is the best brand.. either Ft4 or Ft7.

I agree if you are going to get on, invest in a Polar. They also have great customer service. I'm using a Garmin with a chest strap right now and I don't feel it is as accurate as my Polar.

What about a Timex Personal Trainer T5G971, any experiences with them?

Absolute CRAP! I had this HRM and the calorie burn is way inflated because you can't set gender on it, so it automatically assumes you are a male and thus gives you the calorie burn of a male.
