Log everything.
Other than that, you just need to exercise and use portion control. When I know I have to log something, I am less likely to splurge and eat crap. It's only been a week, you've got to give this lifestyle change some serious time to work, and you need to be ready for it. Good luck!0 -
Stay in contact with friends here at MFP. You need encouragement and accountability. I would suggest that you have your food diary visable so that your friends can see what you are eating and can give you some advice. It is really hard to do this on our own. We really need help from others. Good luck. And, don't let this past week get to you. Today is a new day. :happy:0

I think we all have times when we get discouraged and have weak moments but you have to stick with it. It is a slow process and requires a whole new way of thinking about yourself and the foods you eat.
Once you get some weight off you feel such a sense of accomplishment and it's one of the greatest feelings you can have.
I smoked for 26 years and I quit cold turkey 4 years ago. I actually got tears in my eyes on the day of my first anniversary of quitting because I was so overwhelmed with joy that I had gone a year without smoking. I got the same feeling from losing weight. It makes you feel great about yourself. The only way to experience it though is to be patient and keep reminding yourself that you can do it and you're worth it.
Planning ahead is the easiest way to success. Spend some time on the weekend making little snack packs that you can grab on the run that are healthy. Plan meals and make them ahead of time if possible to lessen the amount of time you have to spend preparing them later. Little things like that make a big difference.
You can do it. Just make the choice and move forward.

Hang in there! Loosing 5 lbs in 1 week is AWESOME, that's a really great job. I find I get off really easily if I totally deprive myself of things I love...chocolate would be an example. So I just work a little bit into my calories for the day, this way I don't feel like I'm Dieting or missing out on the stuff that isn't good for me (but very yummy)...I'm just making better food choices for the rest of my day and being diciplined in Portion Control, this will usually allow me to half half a serving of M&Ms as a treat...although yesterday I had a full serving.
I'm a little off track myself this week. The hurricane here in the Northeast messed up my whole weekly rutine that I haven't gotten to the grocery store yet and am really lacking fruit and veggies in my diet this week! Traffic is so out of control my 30 minute each way commute has turned into 2 hours each way because of all the flooding road closures, that I can't even bring myself to stop on my way home from work to grocery shop. As a result, I'm eating way too many processed foods this week, I'm trying not to put myself down for it, as I normally eat lots of fruit and veggies even when I'm not trying to loose weight, and I'm just aiming to keep in my calorie goals as best I can until I get to the store.
Everyone has set backs, but coming here and asking for help tells me you can overcome these few rough days and get back on track because you obviously WANT to! It's mostly a mental battle....I find when I overthink things it takes longer to get back on track...just decide right now that today will be different and then follow through0
