Overestimating exercise calories-& eating them!

So a lot of people seem to be posting about not eating their exercise calories as when they do they gain weight.
I think most people may be way overestimating how many calories they have burnt.
If I ate my exercise calories and didn't lose weight I would
1) Realise I was overestimating my exercise calories (very very common mistake)
2) Adjust accordingly!
I love body pump and Les Mills website says I will burn an average of 530 calories per class
http://www.lesmills.com/global/bodypump/about-bodypump.aspx
However studies have shown it is more likely 214-339 calories
http://www.thefactsaboutfitness.com/research/bodypump.htm
So I went for 280 calories (as my class is 60min & I do lift relatively heavy weights)
Someone who entered 530 calories and ate accordingly may not lose weight.
I saw someone put they burnt 500 calores for an hour of cleaning...um I seriously doubt it unless you were running around with a broom over your head.
For the first time in my life while I am on a diet I am not feeling deprived and still losing weight-I am eating most of my exercise calories most days.
**ok it's early days but I have dieted sucessfully at least 8 times since I was 20-the same 4kg that I put on whenever I go on holiday!

The amount of calories you burn depends on your weight, height, heart rate, temperature, and oxygen exchange. Someone may very well burn 500 calories cleaning- you don't know what they're doing, how long, how big their house, and how much they weigh. And quite a few people who use this site have HRMs that tell them how many calories you burn. Yesterday, according to my HRM, I burned 600 calories by walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes at 3.5 and using the elliptical for 15 min. Will you burn more or less than this if you duplicate it? It all depends on the person.0

I think a HRM to estimate calorie burn is the best tool for this process. Before I had one, both MFP and the machine would tell me I was burning about 500 calories for 30 minutes of stationary biking. When I bought my HRM I was very disappointed to learn I was actually burning about half that. Good thing I wasn't eating all those calories back because I would have been very unsuccessful. I see some people post their calorie burns and I am sometimes sceptical, in that they burn 3 or 4 times what I would for that same exercise. I realize now that I tend to burn a little less no matter what my level of exersion is. That's just my body, and I adapt very quickly to a routine. Within a week I will be burning less if I do the same routine. Without a HRM I wouldn't know any of that. Watching my HRM encourages me to push myself and work a little longer if I have had less burn that workout.0
