Motivation follows action

Something I've noticed on those days where I feel out of sorts and want to skip a workout: Once I get started I feel pretty good about doing it. There's an old psychology adage that "Motivation follows action," and I'd say it's very true about workouts, too.

So for all the beginners (like me - I've only been working out 6 weeks) here at MFP, just get started on your workout. Chances are you'll feel better about it once you're doing it.

Good luck!

I completely agree with this. I lost all my motivation for a few days, not logging food or working out (although trying to stay loosely in my calorie range) and yesterday continued the tread of wanting to curl up in bed all day... and then I decided screw it, I can't give in yet! I didn't feel motivated at all but I decided to push through and carry on - and I'm so glad I did! Saw a great saying in someone's signature on here: "you can be sore tomorrow, or you can be sorry tomorrow" - I'd definitely rather be sore!

Thanks for that!! It is a great way to look at it and I can use all the help I can get in the area of exercise. I think I'll write up that adage and keep it where I can see it every day. Good luck to you too. It sounds like you have the right attitude to be successful.

That's exactly how it works with me too. I think it has something to do with endorphins and the plain old fact that work does good to he/she that does it.
