This may seem little, but really made me happy. Maybe 2 NSVs, actually. Sorry this is a little long and rambly.
My mom is obese and full of good intentions. She has always tried to be helpful and supportive, but it usually winds up back firing.
I was always the fat kid growing up, and lost 30 pounds in high school, then regained most of it the year my dad was really sick (he’s fine now). College did wonders for me, and when I graduated I was in the best shape of my life. Heavier than I was in high school, but I was hitting the gym 3 to 4 times a week and running on the days I wasn’t there. I moved back home when I graduated (not my first choice), and the weight has been creeping back on for the last 2 years. I also sprained my ankle very badly a couple months after I was home, and it killed my routine. All of my families bad habits kept creeping back in on me. I’m 5’3”, and started at 156 pounds.
So I made up my mind it was time to fix it. I’m looking at apartments with the boyfriend so I can move out and get away from the bad eating habits.
BUT enough of the back story. I’ve been doing this very seriously for just over a month now. I’ve started working out 3 to 4 times a week again and making healthier and lower calorie food choices. I’ve only lost two pounds, but I’ve lost over 2 inches from my waist.
The best part, I think, is that my mom told me I look thinner, and that my arms look more defined. She’s usually the last person to notice. Also, she told me she’s been trying to eat less junk food so I don’t have to watch her eat it. So it looks like my good habits may encourage her!

Good Luck and Congratulations on your success so far! Maybe now would be a good time to ask your Mom if she would like to join you in making lifestyle changes. She is willing to eat less junk and that's a start. Maybe invite her for a walk or share a good recipe with her and start from there. :)
  • Great job!!! That's definitely 2 NSV's. You're healthy habits are rubbing off on your mother which is such an accomplishment, maybe she can join the weight loss wagon train!

Thanks ladies! I've been encouraging my mom to go on walks with me. She's a below the knee amputee, and is kind of caught in a catch 22. She needs to lose weight so the prosthetic works better, but it's hard for her to exercise with the prosthetic the way it is. Hopefully the eating habits will help.
