I noticed that now that I workout, my period (2nd week on it very rare usuLly 2-3 days) anyways now that I'm working out, my period is just spotting, like it's about to end, then I workout and it is a heavy flow a few hrs after I workout, also very clotty, which is also not normal. I have the implanon inserted, have had it for 17 mos. And have never had these problems until the past few months of exercising. I have an appt in 5 weeks for my yearly and will definitely discuss with my doctor.
I mean I'm not fatigued and I definitely am not even cramping my last period was the same way. Lasted 3 weeks.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? I know nobody is a doctor lol just looking for similar stories.

Exercise is known to speed up the shedding of the uterine lining during our periods - that's one reason it's recommended to help with cramps (same goes for sex/orgasms, since they cause the uterus to contract, btw
) What you're experiencing shouldn't be a problem, although it's always good to discuss it with your doctor if it concerns you.

Interesting! Thanks!! I know my implant is supposed to cause irregular bleeding but havent even had but 4 periods on it0 -
Discussing it with your doctor is definitely the way to go, but I can say that I've had similar experiences on occasion. When not on a hormonal contraceptive my periods tend to get heavier during and after strenuous exercise (for example, if out hiking or doing a big session at the gym I've sometimes flooded). Now I'm on Cerazette (pill), which has stopped my periods altogether, yet sometimes after exercise I have spotting. I wonder whether it's just due to the muscles around the womb moving around a bit and the lining breaking off a little (sounds yucky - but hey!). I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.0

Yea probably normal, just threw me off!! I go from panty liner to super tampon by the time I'm home from the gym!! And he implanon is progesterone only no estrogen, I'm always afraid it's not working, I mean I'm going through a divorce so ow I don't have to worry aout that partlol0

I have a Mirena and it does the same thing to one's flow that Implanon does, and I get crampier w/ a heavier or breakthrough flow after most hard workouts.0 -

Oh ok cool! Lol!! I'm planning on having mine removed soon since I no longer need it as a form of birth control, I want to be free!0 -
I've never used an IUD, but I've worked in women's health clinics, and I'd say unusual bleeding is a reason to call your doctor now. Even if you think the bleeding can be attributed only to the workout, it's possible that there's something else going on, and your doctor will probably want to know about it. And even if it's true that the workout caused the bleeding, there's always a possibility that it's caused something to happen that shouldn't have. If I were you, I'd call the doctor's office, explain what's been going on, and ask whether they think you should be seen before your scheduled annual appointment. They may tell you to wait anyway, but you never know. Changes in your menstrual cycle are your body's way of telling you that something's not quite right.0
