Menopause and weight loss

So I started having power surges (hot flashes and night sweats) a few months ago. (It so sucks) I hear everyone talking about a good nights sleep and how important it is for everything including weight loss and I'm thinking I may never sleep through the night again and when I do sleep it's with a new friend, it's name is Remote and it takes care of the air conditioner.
I know I can't be the only person going through this and would like to hear how others are coping and if there are remedies or other helpful things to do. Thanks

I'm not there just yet, but my doctor told me that black cohosh could help with hot flashes when and if they come. He said that a documented study in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that it worked in 50% of women who used it and that it was all or nothing...either it worked or it didn't. Re: weight loss....when I was younger, I could just think about losing a few pounds and it would be gone in a hurry. No so anymore, which is why I am here on MFP!!!0

I'm there. A friend who's an herbalist recommended pure peppermint - a few drops in a cup of tea or water. Haven't tried it yet.0

Hi there...no you aren't alone with the lovely symptoms of menopause. I have been experiencing it for over a year now with the mood swings, hot flashes, etc. I do take a Natural Black Cohosh Extract made by Spring Valley that can be purchased at your local Walmart for about 4 bucks that helps big time!! It helps with the mood swings, hot flashes and night sweats. My symptoms have reduced considerably since I started exercising. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not but something is working. Best of luck to you. You can do this!!!0

Black cosh didn't work for me, and if it does -for some people- it may take a couple of months to really feel the difference. Try Stroven extra strengh for the day and the night option before you go to sleep. It may help or it may not.
Actually the only thing that calms the hotflashes and everything else that comes with menopause is HRT, but that is something to discuss with your doctor and it is also a personal decision.
I feel for you; being there, done that!0 -
Hi. I am there with you. I am not in full menopause yet, my dr says I am in perimenopause, so suffering from hot flashes, night sweats, sleepless nights, the mood swings and a hard time losing weight ( it also doesn't help I have a thyroid problem).
I have tried some different herbal teas before bed, but then I wake up anyway for a night trip to the bathroom
I know it is an extra challenge to lose the weight, and will take more effort than it did in our 20's, but we can do it!!0 -
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try the Black Cohosh.0
