Losing pounds, not inches?

I have been eating better and exercising for just about 2 months and I've noticed that while I'm down 23 pounds (woohoo!), I haven't lost that many inches. I am eating about 1,200 net cals a day (doing about 500 in exercise and eating most of the cals back but but still keeping at my 1,200 goal) and I am focusing my foods primarily around healthy carbs in the forms of fruits and veggies, healthy fats, lean protein and fresh fruit. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It takes forever for the inches to show up on me. It's just always been that way. I may get to notch my belt a bit tighter or get a little baggy in the jeans, but the measuring tape doesn't really move at first. I typically have to get down a good 10 - 20 lbs before I notice a marked difference, but then knowing this? I don't waste my time measuring more than once a month. Good luck!

First, congrats on the weight loss! Second, I agree that the inches take a while. But -- what kind of exercise are you doing? A fitness-forward friend of mine showed me this website -- http://nerdfitness.com/blog/ (sorry to pimp it, but it's fantastic). The author beats you over the head with circuit training and how eating right is 80% of the battle -- but it's actually really inspiring. He has a post called "Life Lessons Learned from George Costanza" and an "Angry Birds Workout." I don't follow any of his advice to the letter (but he makes it so that isn't what the site is about...), and I've seen great results re: weight and inches lost. Definitely check it out!

Thanks, I will check it out! I am doing pretty low-impact exercises - I am on my feet a food part of the day but once off from work I do about 20-30 minutes of powerwalking, 15 minutes on my trampoline - jumping jacks and side twists and other hilarious looking routines :) and then I do about 10 to 15 minutes of crunches.

Yeah, it wasn't until I got to about 20 lbs that I started really noticing inches falling off. You should be fine. Just keep truckin'!

I think it is one or the other....I have only lost 20 lbs (within first 2 months of this) but I continue to lose the inches. It is hard when you dont see both numbers go down. HUGS.

wow im so glad i read this. i felt like a jerk for weighing myself and seeing that id lost weight but still complaining about not losing inches. i am SO happy to be down 22 pounds at this point, as i do have a large goal. but i just have not had much movement in my inches and it is a big bummer to not see the loss. everybody seems to be saying that it is a slow loss and to just wait it out..hopefully these inches decided to leave me for good soon. good luck to you all as well, just thought id put in my thoughts.

Just a week of 30DS lost some inches for me. Maybe give it a try?

Are you measuring yourself or is someone else measuring you? It can be hard to get accurate measurements on yourself. 2 days ago I measured myself and I had gained .25 in on my arms and stayed the same every where else. My trainer measured me today and I had actually lost .5 an in off each thigh and almost an inch off my gut.

Are you doing strength training as well? That will help.
