Has anyone made a big dent in the last 20-30 pounds with exercise (running) alone?

If so please share your experiences.

Thanks

  • I went from a 325 pound couch potato to a marathon runner last year with just running and diet - now I'm in training for an Ironman with my first 70.3 half Iron triathlon happening in one week.

Try: ludgerclay. He's an extreme ultra-runner!

I got to about 230 with just diet (from 325). I plateaued there for about 6 months, and finally managed to break free with some dietary and exercise advice from Banks. I started working on c25k, and that got me down to around 200. Training for a half marathon got me down to 183. I've gained a little weight since I can't run well in hot weather (body just can't do it), but as it gets cooler I feel pretty safe in assuming it'll pull me back down as I run more.

So while it wasn't exercise alone, exercise threw the right fuel on the fire at the right time.
  • I have lost 43 lbs since April and I think alot of it has to do with diet and running. I do other exercise as well...but I run quite a bit. I did my first half marathon in July and completed it in 2:33.

Not an ultra-runner, but running is my main form of exercise and I log 25-30 miles a week. I am training for a 1/2 marathon in October. I have been on MFP since first part of June and have lost 35lbs (225 down to 190) in just over 2 months. i did this primarily through running and healthier eating habits. I do other exercise as well, but running has been my primary 5 day a week exercise.
