Yesterday I found my self stressed out at work. I went for rocky road cookies at luch time. Not the best choice and afterwards I found my self still as stressed out as I was before. Does any one have a anit-stress food/thing that can be done at work that does not involve sugary/fatty foods? I'm interested in changing that habit.

Food probably won't help. It just becomes a vicious cycle. I suggest some deep breathing exercises. If you've ever taken a yoga class, use the breathing technique practiced there. Deep breath in through the nose, and as you breathe out lower your chin to your chest. Then as you breathe in level your chin to the floor and lower to your right shoulder as you breathe out. Repeat this process to the back and left. Do it several times if you have to. Keep your eyes closed and concentrate on your breathing. It's a great stress reliever and even helps with TMJ and headaches. :)

I would suggest bring healthy foods with you. My office is always full of bad foods from everyone but me..lol. However I keep fruit and unsalted peanuts at my desk so when I am hungry its right there. My job is very stressful but when I'm really stressed I exercise A LOT!
  • My suggestion is also exercise. I greatly increased my exercuse and physical activity when I started MFP in May and since then, I've noticed a huge difference in how I can handle stress. I will workout when I'm really stressed or upset. I can channel that negative energy into something positive and I always feel better afterwards and not guilty. Plus, I'm in better shape! So take advantage of the surge of adrenaline that stress can give you and use it to help yourself. Turn it around!
  • Thanks Folks,

I do need to exercise more! Getting on the bike tomorrow rain or shine!
