How much sodium....

...does it take to retain water?
I'm doing my official two week weigh in tomorrow, so I've been super careful about my sodium intake all day, but I'm still at 1808/2500. If I stay under 2500, I should be good right? I really don't want water weight to affect my weigh in... :frown:

If you're concerned then drink extra water today to flush out the excess. I eat a ton of sodium and just make sure I drink a bunch of water a couple days before my weigh ins.0

I don''t think its a fixed line, but not sure.0

i keep my sodium intake under 1500mg per day.... consistently.
if i have a high sodium day (over 1500) i tend to retain water (1.5 - 3 pounds) for at least 2 days.
Helps keep me motivated to stay under 1500 *L*0 -

That seems so low! I have trouble staying under 2500.0 -

I definitely am. Hope it turns out good. I did an "unofficial" weigh in this morning and I was down 5lbs, so if all else fails I'll use today's weight...0 -
2 days ago I ate heinz minestrone soup 1/2 can 500 sodium and cauliflower 300 sodium ( I didn`t realize that the soup which only had 64 cals and the veg 14 cals had so much sodium) I was 1lb heavier on the scales today.
so I am going to ditch both of these and stick with cabbage as veg and stay away from the processed soup.
It is amazing how the sodium adds up0 -

Yeah I adds up REALLY fast. I've been making a lot of meals from scratch, like 100%, and not adding any salt and making sure to use "reduced sodium" or "no salt added" foods if I have too. It's hard.0 -

i have high blood pressure (though it is fantastic now i keep my sodium low *S*) and 1500mg actually is the recommended max for those with high blood pressure.. in fact the health council recommends around 1800mg a day now i believe? the 2500mg that mfp has as a default setting is actually not updated to reflect the new recommendations, so i adjusted mine manually. i thought it was hard at first as well, but not really anymore. Just means little processed foods and very carefully planned restaurant meals.0
