NEW OPEN GROUP :)

A few of my MFP buddies and I have been interested in joining a group, but keep noticing that by the time they realise a group is being formed it is already closed. :ohwell:
So we are forming a new group, which will be open for a little while so that others can register interest.
We are thinking short term, achievable goals for now. I was even thinking of maybe setting us a daily goal each day or something like that? Maybe to try new foods, meet different exercise and fitness goals, and of course to lose weight and become healthier!
Any suggestions on name for our group? Or different types of challenges we might try over time? Any and all suggestions welcome and will be used

we could have like a new challenge each week?0
-
I am interested in joining I think we could have people post their exercise time/distance goals at the beginning and track what they actually get.. then we could add them as a group. Or nutrition goals of the week... like specifically watching sodium intake or number of fruits/veggies a day or fiber intake? donno.. just giving ideas.0

try roller skating - lots of fun, burns a lot of calories, and it's something different! :flowerforyou:0
-
I'd be interested in joining your group. All we need is a leader who would solicit ideas and then decide each week what the topic/goal would be.0
-
Yay! I'm in!0

Okay so I am making up a spreadsheet of info I thought we would most likely want to keep track of.
So far I have height, weight, bust/chest, waist, hips, and 1km time. What other fields would you most like to keep track of to challenge us all and see change?
Also we need a name! Suggestions?0 -
i think those things would be good to have for the spreadsheet0
-
we could add age?
how about get sizzling in september?? lol0 -

I am in, but can I track miles? Or maybe post a conversion for the math challenged?
Mel, Love the name!!! For the challenges, how about....
1. Drink X cups of water,
2. If we all have steppers, then we can say do 15,000 steps in a day,
3.How about post something positive that keeps you going,
4.Post something you do when you feel the need to binge or loaf?
5. X Jumping Jacks a day0 -
Yay open group! I like the idea of weekly challenges!0

Sizzling in September it is! Anybody any good with making avatars and want to volunteer??
Ok the fields are now:
MFP'er:
age:
height:
weight:
bust/chest:
waist:
hips:
1km/mile time: (I understand many ppl don't feel love for the metric system, but using the imperial system here is like using a dirty word and trying to convert miles hurts my head so we will just have both lol... or you can use an online converter such as http://www.derbyshireguide.co.uk/miles-into-kilometres.htm which converts both ways, up to you! Just make sure to let me know which system you are using!)
Very open to more suggestions! If you want to be in the group and are happy with these fields for now, please post info below or message it to me and I will fill in the table
Today is 2 Sept over here in Aus, but I know there are still a few hours left of 1 Sept in the US (where most MFP'ers seem to be), so we should start today! We will start off easy since it is later and there is less time to complete the challenge.
Sept 1 challenge = 1 minute of jumping jacks/starjumps + 1 minute of burpees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2cPYR0lRUE) + 1 minute of pushups (whatever style is hardest but achieveable for you) + 2 minute of fast stairs or 1 minute of step ups for each leg = 5 minutes of cardio to get us all moooooooooooooving!
Report back when done. GO!
Sept 2 challenge = 1km/mile walk/run, fast as you can! These times will be used to fill in the chart, so really bust it YOU CAN DO IT!
Weekly challenge: Between now and 7 Sept everyone should also...
1. Try at least one new vegetable/fruit and report back about your experience.
2. Minimum 3.5 hours of exercise this week. This can be 30 minutes a day or broken into larger times (1 hour class, 1 hour cycle, 1.5 hr good pace walk for example.) DO NOT count time spent thinking about exercise, putting on shoes, driving to the gym etc. Time spent working out only! Also, no counting incidental exercise (walking to work, playing with the kids etc) - must be exercise for the sake of exercise.
3. Identify at least one NSV (non scale victory) for the week and share your story with us0 -

I have come up with some daily challenges for this week... Would love feedback and ideaaaas!!! I would really like this to not be all about exercise stuff too, so I would love more ideas for personal challenges too And I would LOVE if we could all be really supportive of each other by encouraging each other to share the experience :flowerforyou: also a good way for some of us loners to get to know some more people!
I sort of thought that the daily goals should mostly be short and attainable things that we can do on top of normal routine, so I tried to think of easy things to get us into it to start with. But definitely happy to go with the flow and make it harder if requested/ideas suggested! I thought the weekly goals should be somewhat harder but more flexible to achieve.
Week beginning 1 Sept - Weekly goals (as previously mentioned:
1. Try at least one new vegetable/fruit and report back about your experience.
2. Minimum 3.5 hours of exercise this week.
3. Identify at least one NSV (non scale victory) for the week and share your story with us.
1 Sept: 1 minute of jumping jacks/starjumps + 1 minute of burpees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2cPYR0lRUE) + 1 minute of pushups (whatever style is hardest but achieveable for you) + 2 minute of fast stairs or 1 minute of step ups for each leg = 5 minutes of cardio to get us all moooooooooooooving!
2 Sept: 1km.mile time challenge
3 Sept: 2x15 walking lunges, 2x15 squats, plank/hover as long as you can hold it!
4 Sept: 5 minutes of core strengthening yoga for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnaDlKhifkQ
5 Sept: drink at least 2.5L water
6 Sept: 2x25 crunches, 2 x15 tricep dips
7 Sept: Review your motivation photos and remind yourself what you are doing all this for!
Further days' challenges open for suggestion please share any ideas or requests!0 -

Loving the challenges you've listed!0 -
Yay, good job!
I've done my quick challenge for today too feeling great!
Anyone else wanting to join who is ready to share their info?0 -
I messaged you mine. I didnt think to post it here. duh! I missed out on Sep 1st cuz I was in bed already. I'm in the U.S. In Indiana. Where is everyone from???
A bit about me... I work as a Surgical Technologist in a small hospital. I am married, this month is our 10 year ann. We have 3 girls. The twins will be 12 this month, and I have a 9 year old. I was a couch potato, and now, I am moving more. Love it!!!
Suggestions: How about giving up pop? or search online for a new exercise and share. (For me, I don't have much workout stuff, I walk and that is about it, and then some strength training)0 -
Sorry to be a pain... when is our official weigh day? I know we post daily on things, but when are we going to post weight? I am in 3 challenges now, and I am making a chart so I don't miss a weigh in. lol Notes are my lifesaver. LOL0
-
Sorry guys, my ideas are coming: How about Bring your lunch to work? No eating out for X days in a row... Try a new recipe and then share, if it was good. lol If we all have kids, try to take them with on walks? Or substitute something we have for something better, line instead of white bread, go whole grain. I found a 35 cal a slice bread with 5 g or fiber. I'll post the name if anyone is interested. it is wonderful, so soft... Or park as far away from the door as possible.
I hope it doesn't sound like I am trying to take over, I just know the last challenge I was in, the lady who ran it had a hard time coming up with something different after so many days.
Well, I'm off to work, have a great day!!!0 -
Hey I would love to join if you are still taking people.
I will work out my info and post soon!!
