weight fluctuation

I dont understand why my weight fluctuates so much every single day. I'm not too worried about it and i know you shouldn't weigh yourself every day but I do for the heck of it and I'm just interested in why one day it will say 124.5 then the very next day it will say 126.8, then 125 and so on. I eat about the same amount of calories and sodium every day. I also workout about the same amount daily. I know its not my scale because i just got it a couple months ago and its a good brand. Anyone else experience this?

A lot of people do. I think that's why they tell you not to weigh yourself everyday. Don't worry about it. :flowerforyou:
  • The scale is the same way for me. It goes up and down by as much as 2lbs over night. People say it is water weight. I also weigh everyday and people tell me not to but I cant help it!!

It happens. I also weigh myself daily periodically for the heck of it. There is a lot that influences our water weight, including how hydrated you are, the weather (more water retention with heat), your diet, how often you go to the bathroom, and your hormonal cycle. I've seen where I've been 128 lb one day and 125 lb the next. As you said, it's nothing to be concerned about :).

Yesterday I weighed myself before going to the washroom to *cough* and I weighed 120 lb. Afterward, I weighed myself again and it said 117.4 lb

I think it is the natural ebb and flow of our bodies. A cool site is www.skinnyr.com. It is a fee site that allows you to enter your weight in everyday and then you can see what your bodies does over a months time.

I personally don't think it's that big of a deal to weigh yourself every day, and I am pretty sure that current research actually shows that some people who do weigh themselves daily do betteroverall (quick looked it up and found this: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=55489) Personally, I think as long as you're not obsessing over that pound or 2 difference that you're seeing that it's not a big deal to weigh yourself frequently. As for the flucutation, I definitely see it and I don't worry about it.

Thanks for all the responses! Yeah, if you want to weigh yourself everyday, then go right ahead! There is NOTHING wrong with that. I'm not too worried about the 2 pounds. I'm just interested in why it would change so much every single day! Im glad I'm not the only one!

My weight changes 5pounds a day. I weigh only in the morning at 7am before my weight starts changing. Your body can change 1kg a day mine does 2

Your weight will fluxuate no way around it, mine does. I get the least variation when I weigh myself at the same time everyday. Wake up, bathroom, scale. I also find I weigh the least first thing in the morning. But yeah 1-2lbs I consider natural fluxes.

Water weight is usually the cause. Sodium, carbs, not enough water lead to water retention. I don't weigh myself everyday because I know it isn't fat loss. Pointless for me just for that reason. Weekly/monthly is where it counts.

it's not just about what you're eating but how "regular" you are, how much water you're drinking (or not), your workouts, hormones, medications, hot/humid weather and even allergies.

I'm a daily weigher too, and mostly do well with the fluctuations but still get a bit bummed when it goes up. I started a new weight training program this week and was up a bit the last couple of days and KNOW it's from this change in exercise and that it'll come right back off...but it still bugs me. :)

My scale is brand new and it said I dropped 40lbs in 3 days while I was on my period. New scales are also lying...horses I don't think the word I want to use is allowed.
