What does this mean? I read on here several times someone saying there IS such a thing as too much exercise. What?

what you need recovery days. a day where you don't exercise, nothing more then stretching and walking, imo. your body needs time to recover and repair itself.

i actually haven't worked out these last two days, but still being strict with my calorie intake, and i've lost a pound.

I work out 5 days a week and my days off are Thursday and Sunday but on Wednesday and saturday are my real intense days to workout, to give my muscles rest.

That sounds reasonable to me. I would definitely listen to your body.
  • Also to add what engineman said... There is such a thing as not eating enough. If you are excersing and burning a lot more calories you need to be fueling your body more. Pay close attention to your end calories.

I do eat most all my calories and I work out 6 days a week, I think Im doing good. I just couldnt figure what someone meant by that statement.
  • They could have been refferring to overtraining syndrome? Endurance athletes (more common in age groupers than pros since pros are usually coached) sometimes find themselves gaining weight even when working out for 20+ hours per week. Their performance drops and they often get sick or injured. It happens to regular people sometimes as well. A resy day or two per week and enough quality calories prevents it.

Likely referring to overtraining, however you have to understand how really rare OT is. And overtraining and CNS stimulus are two different things, I've been sick because I've shocked my CNS before, but it certainly wasn't because of overtraining.
