Advice on how I should log this . . .

Okay, so I've had the last several months off of work. Basically I've been pretty sedentary. So I'm starting this new job today. I'm going to be cleaning sail boats. From what I've learned about the job I'm basically going to be cleaning my a** off for about 10 hours today. The job will only be on Fridays, so I'm thinking that this can count as my daily workout, but I don't know how I should log it. I know there is the "cleaning" option under cardio, but what would you guys do for the amount of time? I don't want to log some crazy number. Advice please!

I would just wear a hrm during the time I was cleaning that way you can log accurately.0

If you're doing more physical work during the day you can go into settings and change the physical level of your occupation (the more physical your job the more calories you're allowed per day). I went from having a job where I moved all day to an office job, and that's what I did to switch the calorie allowance.0

Set your activity level much higher than sedentary and don't log it as daily exercise.0

I thought about changing my daily activity level, but I'm only doing this job one day a week. I didn't think that would be the best way to log this job. And the HRM is a great idea! Unfortunately I don't own one, yet.0

I disagree, since the job is only one day a week, she should keep her activity level as sedentary and log that day as exercise. Since she's otherwise sedentary, except for workouts, I think it should be counted as a workout.
OP, I would wear a heart rate monitor. If you don't have one, then I would try to under-estimate the number of hours working. So 10 hours minus breaks and stuff, count maybe 7 hours?0 -
I'd say don't change a thing initially... Don't log it, since you'd have no way to know how many calories you are burning (without a HRM)... Any excess burned calories are a bonus....

Yes but she is only doing one day a week, so it wouldn't really make sent to change your whole activity level?0 -
Yep, since its only 1 day a week definitely log it as exercise and don't change your activity level. I would log it as "cleaning" as this would be the most similar. Or if you have a heart rate monitor wear it and create your own exercise.0

Sounds like I need to get myself a HRM! I think I'll probably just deduct my breaks and stuff from my total hours worked, and then just log a little bit less than what I actually worked for the day. That sounds like my best bet. I just don't want to over-estimate how many calories I burned and then end up over eating for the day!0

Thanks, I'm really excited about the job! I have never actually sailed, I just moved to an area where it's a possibility, and I'm hoping to learn very soon!0

Woops. I TOTALLY missed the Fridays only part. He's right and I was wrong. Good luck on your new job. Sounds tough but fun!0
